Does the Lay to Rest Hex have an HD limit?

Topic.

While it doesn't say "no HD limit" like Slumber Hex does, this has to be an oversight.

As a Grand Hex, no Witch can get it until Level 18. Undeath to Death has a 9 HD limit. As such, by the time you can get it, there are no enemies to use it on since you won't fight 9 HD undead at Level 18. This is compounded by the fact that you can only target a single creature, making it objectively worse than Undeath to Death (which is already a pitifully weak spell) as long as the HD limit remains in place.

Also, does it have a material component? On another forum, people claimed that any hex that is states to function as a spell requires material components unless the entry says otherwise (such as with the Life Giver Hex).

So what's the official ruling on this?

Liberty's Edge

Yes, it has the HD limit.

No, it does not have material components, supernatural abilities never do.

By RAW I can't see any way it doesn't have the HD limit. However, I do agree with you that it is basically useless as written at the level you gain access to it, and that does make me wonder whether they didn't intend something different than what they wrote. If so, they should clarify it. Until then, it's just another hex that nobody should take.

Okay, I posted in the suggestions forum to get some errata on this hex. It will literally never see play RAW.

In 20 levels, you only get two Grand Hexes, and one should always be Life Giver Hex.
