Help me get started with an Online Pathfinder campaign

Gamer Connection

I am new to playing Pathfinder with groups online. The only time I have played it was in a homebrew setting with some friends and I really miss it. A lot of the people on various message boards seem very into it and request things like third party books, Gestalt rules (whatever that means) and they expect that I have vast knowledge of the world the campaign takes place in. All that is intimidating for me. I used to just roll up a character and play. Is there a good starting point? What do I need and where do I go? I already have copies of many of the books I just want to play in a non third party setting at my speed. Any suggestions would greatly help.

Keep checking the recruitment thread, and post in there, in the threads that list games that fit your criteria. Gestalt games ( i believe) are games in which the character has two classes at the same time. Not positive on that tho. I like core stuff myself and play mostly that.
It sounds like you like core as well. If so definitely check out the
Pathfinder Society games or PFS. You'll need to download or read on the site the field guide and learn the PFS rules, but games are short and pop up all the time. Also on the recruitment thread, a lot of the DM's are willing/ like to help newcomers get started.
Hope my ramblings help some. XD

^Thanks, Chakka! Your ramblings certainly did help. I kinda felt like I was in over my head when all I wanted to do was play Pathfinder. I think I'll take your advice and post to the recruitment thread asking for a Core game to join. I hope someone takes me. I know a lot of people enjoy it but in my opinion the Third party stuff just complicates things. Everything I would want is in the Core stuff.

Also as a player, even if some one else is using 3 party stuff, YOU don't have to . I play pretty much core stuff wherever I play .XD
Luck!

My own two cents...

To me, when someone says core only, I assume they mean the core rule book only. So no traits, no base classes...just the stuff in the core rule book. The impression I'm kinda getting, is that you, Captain Fargus, are interested in playing Paizo only, not necessarily core only.

Also, when you say play online, are you talking a PbP here on the message boards or are you looking for a virtual tabletop group on something like Fantasy Grounds or Roll20?
