Looking for inspiration for military segment of Homebrew campaign

Advice

Liberty's Edge

I've got a homebrew campaign running right now on the boards. The PC's are coming to the end of the first segment. Sometime in the not-too-distant future the group will be tasked with aiding an army in a (hopefully) decently complex series of military operations.

Don't read if you're my player:
The kingdom will be overrun. At some point, the PC's will be tasked with aiding the re-conquest. They'll do things like secure supply lines, capture advanced forts, etc.

I have the Fangwood Keep module, which includes a handy fort map that I may use.

Any other AP volumes or modules you'd recommend for inspiration based on the above? Thanks!

I believe King Maker has some interesting mass combat rules (it may be the second or third module. Also you could use Ultimate Campaign they have mass combat rules in them. Mass combat starts on page 234

Mass Combat Rules

The Ultimate Campaign Mass Combat rules are basically the Kingamker mass combat rules, but balanced and better. I believe there is mass combat in one of the Kingmaker AP books, but I'm a player in one of those games right now, and we're not there yet.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks! Another thing I'm looking for is objectives for an advance party of elite specialists to accomplish to clear the way for the main forces.

I.E. - sneak into key watchtower and take out signal beacon so army can pass "undetected". Or go behind enemy lines and capture key leader, etc, etc.

scouting, targeted strikes, taking out mcguffins, side quests to find mcguffins, plotting to take out the winner at the moment of their triumph and become god kings themselves, leading refugees to a new promised land, doing quests to secure alliances with other powers/races/nations in their war.

Sczarni

In the 2nd part of the Wrath of the Righteous AP there is some significant usage of armies and the party for "elite" strikes. You might look there for inspiration.

Liberty's Edge

Good stuff! - I've actually found a fair bit of inspiration along these lines from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The PCs are the Jedi, of course. It's sometimes hard for me to put that in game terms, so seeing that an AP book may have it is good.

I heard the 2nd or 3rd part of Kingmaker might be good in this respect as well. Yes/no?

I'm playing in the 2nd part of Kingmaker right now, and we haven't fought any wars or raised any armies yet. Right now we're in the middle of sorting out the side quests, seeing as we've explored everything but

Kingmaker:
the hex with Hargulka and his trolls and the one next to it.

There might be in the third part. I think the 5th segment is actually called War of the River Kings, and it might have a lot of that stuff in it.
