Scenarios played per character.

Does anyone know the reasoning behind the rule that we can only play a scenario once as a player and once as a GM? I was kind of surprised at that rule when I first started playing. My intuition when I started was that it should be once per character.

You can play a scenario as many times you like as a GM. But you only get a chronicle on one occasion.

Like Paz said, you can get a chronicle once for playing and once for GMing (and if you want to use a star re-run, you could have a third as either player or GM).

It gives a benefit to those running the scenario that may have wanted to play it, but they helped their area by running it first.

My guess would be to keep people from playing the same scenarios over and over with new people ot scenario and having them replayers wrecking it.

This topic has been discussed at great length before; Drogon has come up with a couple of the most eloquent counterpoints to this suggestion, here and here.

Thanks everyone, I see your points, and thanks Paz for those links I wasn't quite sure how to word my searches correctly to find that information. I was sure that it had been discussed before.

One defense that I've found to this is the creation of my "bad decisions cleric", a cleric of Sun Wukong who is consistently wrong.

Details:

My cleric is intentionally played as an idiot. He walks into traps and ambushes, offers drinks to enemies and generally plays a fool. However, he is also a survivor - he manages to stay alive due to a high HP and AC, as well as the Travel and Liberation domains.

My point is that even if you've GMmed something, it's not always a snooze-fest to play it again.

I have a similar character - I have a drunk who dipped into lore oracle for the CHA to AC, but he doesn't have a single rank in any knowledge skill. That doesn't stop him from thinking he knows everything, so he often comes up with convoluted theories about what the scenario is actually about, which are of course wrong since I know what is really going on.

It also prevents people from developing preferred play lists. If you could replay each scenario with each character, I suspect people would quickly develop a list of "If I play these 30 scenarios, in this order, I maximize the boons my PCs can earn." and just play those 30 scenarios.
