Fighter / Pathfinder Delver?

Advice

Has anyone tried this? it seems like a really fun way to make a skilled, but still combat effective rogue-like character. Its an easy PrC to get into, and i really like the Bardic Knowledge, Master Explorer, and Left for Dead abilities on a party Fighter.

Seems like Vanilla Fighter, Lore Warden, or maybe Weapon Master could get some interesting usage out of it.

I'm really liking the idea of a two handed, power attacking fighter with 5 levels of this, wearing light or medium armor...

Any suggestions, advice, whatever, is much appreciated!

It's not bad, but it'd be better if it had some way to get the Trap Spotter rogue talent. If you don't mind occasionally missing a trap--or crawling through dungeons slowly enough to methodically search every nook--it's very flavorful and not terrible, an Indiana Jones without the mystical baggage of the archaeologist bard.

Like most prestige classes, it's a bit underpowered. I'd add the entire level to Disable Device checks and maybe Trap Spotter as a mid-level ability. That would be some small compensation for losing the utility of bard spells vs. archaeologist.

The downfall for the fighter is the lack of some relevant skill pre-reqs.
Acrobatics, Disable Device and Perception not on your list is tough. Yo will need to dip outside fighter for some of this or chew up all of your traits.

The Trapfinder Trait from People of the sand gives DD and Trap Finding as a Rogue but your best option is some form of Lore-Warden/Trapper Ranger/Pathfinder Delver or Just Trapper Ranger/Pathfinder Delver. Grab Acrobatics(Rice Runner from Dragon Empires Primer)with a trait.

I would be tempted to go
Trapper Ranger 4/Pathfinder Delver 5(if thats all you want)/Fighter (of whatever flavor) or back to Ranger.
Take Rice Runner as one of your Traits and go for a switch hitter type build.
Power attack, Boon Companion and Rapid Shot from your Weapon style. If you planned to go back to Ranger i'd be inclined to go Urban Ranger so i don't lose out on spells. If going into Fighter after PD than one level of spell casting isn't that great. Though you would get to use spell completion devices, humm. Tough choice.

IT doesn't matter if they are on your list. Pathfinder allows you to put skill points wherever you want at 1:1 rate. you don't get the +3 for class skills, which don't count as skill ranks anyway and therefore cannot help you enter a prestige class.

You can't take the prestige class until after you have all the requirements, so you'd have to be Ranger 5 before entering the class. And as mentioned, class skills don't interfere with prerequisites.

Sovereign Court

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I made a barogue delver for my Serpent skull game. He was a halfling. I took 2 barbarian levels to get uncanny dodge and fast movment, 4 rogue levels for scout archetype and prereqs for delver. Raging vitality, power attack, and furious focus for feats. Raging charge sneak attack in difficult terrain anyone?

Grand Lodge

I have a Hobgoblin Fighter/Ranger/Pathfinder Delver.

Very fun.

@Cathulu- True enough but you might as well actually get some use out of the skills so go for a solid martial class that can easily get access to those skills. As far as Acrobatics is concerned you could just sink the SP their with-out the +3 or Trait.

@TriOmega- My bad. I missed the 5 ranks of Perception and Acrobatics. Read them all as 4. One extra level of Ranger isn't a terrible thing.

Not to derail the thread, but on the SRD Pathfinder Delver seems to have changed into the Dark Delver. Does anyone know which book makes that change? Is there any difference in abilities between the two?

The SRD cannot use the Golarion specific names.

OT:

Try the Slayer from the ACG playtest into Pathfinder Delver.

I think it may have more of the feel you're going for.

I consider a Trapper Guide Ranger to be a better starting class.

Also, check this thread.
