Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

Alright Ive got 2 questions about setting up the game and Im wondering if anyone as run into this.

When setting up for 4 or more players you set locations based on the information on the scenario card.

Lets use Black Fangs Dungeon as an example

Locations:
1 Desecrated Vault
1 Temple
1 Shrine to Lamashtu
2 Throne Room
3 Thassilonian Dungeon
4 Warrens
5 Deeper Dungeons
6 Mountain Peak

So when setting up a game for 4 players do yall just pick one 1 player location or do you play all three? Only choosing one would leave you with 4 locations on the board for 4 players. Picking all 3 1 player locations would put 6 locations on the board for 4 players. I wasnt sure if the rules meant to put just 1 1 player locations or use all 3.

Second question.

When all of you first set up your starter box set did you put all the spells, monsters, items, weapons and armor from the first adventure deck, Burnt Offerings, into your separated items/weapons/spell/monster decks or is that meant to wait until you actually start playing that adventure deck? I only ask because there are some cool spells/items we would like to play with. but i dont want to break our game by adding them into Brigandoom and Rise of the Runelords base set. anyone else run into this?

You use all the locations up to your number of characters, so for 1 character you use the first three, for 2 the first four etc.

You aren't supposed to introduce the Burnt Offerings stuff into the box scenarios, but since you can start from Burnt Offerings ignoring the lost coast stuff, it shouldn't affect the difficulty.

The game setup is pretty straightforward. You always have 2 more locations than characters playing. So, your 4 player game would have 6 locations, and you go from the 1's on the scenario card up to the number of players. You would pull from the DV to Warrens on your list.

From page 6 of the rulebook:

Quote:
Use all of the location cards listed up to the number of players you have. For example, if you have 3 players, you will use all of the location cards listed for 1, 2, and 3 players, but you won’t use any of the location cards listed for 4, 5, or 6 players.

From page 2 of the rulebook:

Quote:
For your first play session, you’ll need only the base cards, so leave Burnt Offerings sealed for now. If you own the Character Add-On Deck, go ahead and combine that set with the cards in the base set

You are not meant to add the Burnt offering cards in till you start the senario. But its not the end of the world if you have already.

I have 5 players in my group, so we always have 7 locations to explore. Some of the first scenarios from Burnt Offerings are the same as The Lost Coast, so we have played the same locations many times.
Are we allowed to substute the location for when there are 6 players for one of the locations we have already played many times before? Or could we shuffle the locations and choose the top 7?

The locations are tailored to the scenario both in level of difficulty and in story flavor. Using random locations might work but would likely have unintended consequences on the experience for the scenario.

So if a location is only put in play when there are 6 players, it will never get used when there are less?

No; they've stated in several threads that those locations will be used as the first, second, third etc. locations in scenarios that appear later in the adventure path.

Thanks, didn't see that elsewhere. Too many threads here to read them all.
