Having read the most recent update, it seems injuries are going to be a serious matter. Which I like! It is another thing which blend story and game play beautifully. Making you dread every encounter you might encounter on the road.
The thing that got me though is if there would be any friendly duelling or sparing. I have had so much good RP revolving around duels and usually the way I learn to pvp, is to slam my head against the best pvper on the server, again and again until I stand half a chance.
So my question is, will there be some kind of friendly duelling system, which would allow two people to train against one and another without resorting to murder, or bringing each other down to 1% health making them a easy target for passing assassins?

There is always the option of using in-game systems to form up your own duels. Though you can't just start swinging against each other without some penalties to reputation and alignment, you could use a number of methods including feuds, factions, and SAD's (probably the strongest as it's the most flexible of these methods).

I think the one thing that Ryan didn't touch on, which seems the most obvious reason for including duels to me, is for training. Although many people "learn by doing", many also feel much better about getting into something once they've had experience with it. Assuming that PvP combat will be a non-trivial thing to learn, it would be nice to have some method of practice that doesn't involve putting anything on the line.
Like I said a few posts up though, this corner case can be covered by using the mechanics already present to become red to each other without rep loss/other penalties. I don't think any development time is needed to include an additional dueling mechanic.

I could see companies negotiating feuds with one another for the purpose of training. Since neither can really die the 'non-lethal' qualifier seems pretty optional.
First opponent down to 10% health, also works. But negotiated feuds also works if the cost in influence is not too steep.
Ahh... Being, and there you see is yet another work around. No matter what system anyone makes, there is always a way to circumvent it.
