In part 1 of WWI, my players found a very trivial way around one of the challenges and I'm wondering if I missed something that should have stopped it.

Spoiler:

At the ruined guard post with the trapped mongelmen, the party decide to use the levitate scale of Terendelev. As a caster level of 19, that means it can lift 1900 pounds. 1900 pounds equates to a lift overhead strength of somewhere in the 32-33 Strength neigbhorhood. A party of four PCs with Str 18, wouldn't be able to lift overhead such a weight, they might be able to lift off the ground and stagger. So I can see a party of four str 18 people lifting it enough on their own for the other mongrelmen to extract their comrade, can't see any other party being able to lift it, if it was 1900 pounds.

Placing it around 1000 pounds actually seems more like the scale of the challenge as written, so the levitate solution should easily work. Yes its expending one charge of the 3/day tool, and that's a reasonable "cost." Just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something that makes this less possible.

Nope, you've missed nothing. If the players come up with the idea, run with it.

Also, the mongrelmen should now be impressed with the powerful magic the PCs have access to and are willing to use for their benefit.

That's absolutely an excellent way to solve the problem, and well in line with the campaign's themes of superhuman feats and the like. Great job to your PCs!

Thanks for the double check; yes I gave them a better boost in their relationship with the mongrelmen than a more normal solution would have granted, but I'll probably need to return to it again, at least have some overheard gossip about how generous/powerful these strangers are.

Its my first time GMing pathfinder so I'm still trying to get a better sense of what should be easy/what should be hard :)

Yours is not the only group to use this method. Mine did as well and we spent more time trying to figure out if the stone was too heavy or not. After a few minutes I just decided that for no other reason than theatrical effect it worked and moved on.
