2 Questions about the Divine Skill

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

I've searched the forum and read the rule book for an answers to these question, but I'm still not totally clear. Thanks in advance for your help.

Question 1: When one encounters a Divine check, does one use:

a. One's Wisdom: divine skill
b. One's Charisma: divine skill
c. Either one
d. An actual Divine skill, which none of the characters in the base set have but which more advanced characters have
e. It depends on some other element

Question 2: Can an ally who modifies a skill also modify its sub-skills? For instance, if I'm attempting a Charisma: diplomacy check and I have an ally who adds a d6 to a Charisma check, can I use that ally to add a d6 to my Charisma: diplomacy check?

It can get a bit complicated, but the basics are these:

-- To beat a divine check usually will require a character with the divine skill (where it is tied to Wisdom, Charisma or anything else doesn't matter). All characters can make a divine check, but if they don't specifically have the skill they only get the default skill die: 1d4.

-- There is an important difference between a "skill" and a "die" though the first set struggled to make this clear. Essentially, a "die" is just the physical die used to roll, whereas the "skill" will use some die with modifiers. For example, if a character has "Divine: Wisdom +2" that means for a divine check the get use their wisdom skill and add 2 to the result. If say, their wisdom was "1d10 + 2" their divine check would be 1d10 + 2(from the divine modifier) + 2 (from the wisdom modifier) = 1d10 + 4.

To your second question, subskills receive any modifiers from their parent skills. So if you have an ally that adds 2 to a strength based check, it will also add 2 to a melee check, so long as the character actually has the melee skill under their strength attribute (otherwise a melee check uses only a 1d4).

So the answers to your questions are: 1) C and 2) Yes.

That makes sense. Thank you!
