Playing WoTR as non-mythic or less mythic

Wrath of the Righteous

Our DM is letting us vote on which AP we want to play next. We have 5 PCs. There has been some frustration - by players and GM - with high-level play. And mythic seems like it will supercharge that at levels 10+. But WoTR sounds like a really cool story. Has anyone played it/ran it as standard or "less-mythic" tiers? Was it a ton of extra work to adapt?

Thanks

If you don't play WotR as Mythic, then you'll be high level in the 4th book. The rule of thumb is level up the players at the Even Mythic Tiers. That means that in Book 4, you'll have 14th level PCs who'll end at level 18. If you went Mythic, the end of Book 4 is at 15th level and 7 Mythic Tiers. (Also, you'd have to use Hero Points.)

Of course, the module also assumes that certain critters are Mythic. If you want to strip THEM of Mythicness then that means a lot of work by the GM to eliminate those abilities. I will say also from personal experience that Mythic monsters vs. non-Mythic players? Can make characters with stats that are over a 30-point-build (lucky die rolls from half of the group and my upping the other half so they would survive - in the future I'll do point builds instead) suddenly find themselves struggling and finding it a tough fight.

So if you do WotR you WILL end up with uber-high level characters. You'll end up with uber-high level characters halfway through the AP if you don't go Mythic... or with Mythic characters that will probably walk through many encounters if you do, unless your GM is cunning.

I'm not sure at this point if I'm going to run this all the way to the end of chapter 6, but I'm doing the exact opposite.

I'm cutting the class level progression by 1/3, but I'm taking the Mythic to 11 (the group of gifted squires is starting at Tier 1). So far a Tier is better than half a Character Level - I'm thinkin' it's more like 75% as good. So I'm not really worried so far about the PC's being underpowered. I've already planned to add one Minor Artifact weapon, and if need be I can balance the lower levels with some more powerful items.

BTW, just to tell you, my group consists 6 squires: a Cavalier, a Cleric (Crusader arch.), a Magus, 2 Paladins (1 core, 1 Shining Knight arch.), and a Ranger (Skirmisher arch.).

It depends on your group. Do you and the other players consider the other Paizo APs as easy, moderately difficult or hard (escpecially with 5 players)? In the latter cases Wrath of the Righteous needs a massive rework after Book 1. If you deem them "easy" or "too easy" you can ignore the mythic system for players and run the books as written otherwise. But in that case you should still give them 25 Points Builds to have some extra punch.
