Help with a decision! (Witch / Scarred Witch Doctor)

Advice

I'll be re-joining a group for one night only and I'll be coming in as the "fifth wheel". No real role o fill, but I'd like to play something interesting that can contribute to the party. (Mostly in combat)

That's where Witch comes in, but I'm stuck on which archetype to play, if any. I've been cleared to use Half-Orc as the prereq for Scarred Witch Doctor, so that is an option. Here's the basic information:

5th level
25 point build
2 traits
10,500 gp for gear.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance, any help is much appreciated.

Also, just the CRB and APG are allowed at this point, with the exception of the Scarred Witch Doctor.

What other Races are allowed?

What does the rest of the party consist of?

Is this for an Adventure Path?

The core races are allowed. Nothing monstrous or from crazy splat books. Drow is also allowed, only with a change to their stat bonuses. They get +2 Dex and Int (as opposed to Cha) and -2 Con. No drow nobles.

The current party consists of a Human Barbarian, a Human Life Oracle that wades into combat often, a Human Rogue that is dual-wielding, and an Elf Wizard focused on battlefield control with a bit of blasting.

The campaign started off on the Skulls and Shackles AP, but quickly switched to a sandbox adventure. I will only be at the table for this one session, and need some convincing as to what I should play. I'm fairly stuck on Witch, but can't pin down which variant I'd like to play. (Also, I've lurked on these forums quite a bit and I'm a pseudo-fan of yours, blackbloodtroll. I may be fanboying right now.)

Keep in mind that the witch still has a low BAB

Thanks. I never really thought I have done anything that would deserve me fans.

Well, Human, Half-Elf, and Aasimar are options as well, through the Racial Heritage feat.

Human and Half-Elf have some decent favored class bonus options.

Note: As of now, the Scarred Witch Doctor still determines bonus spells by intelligence. This may be errata'd later.

I would ask your DM about it.

I know that Witch has a low BAB. I'm not seeing the relevance of that comment.

Blackbloodtroll, are you saying that even the Scarred Witch Doctor's bonus spells are based off of his Int score? If so, that's new to me and may throw that archetype right out of the window. The loads of hit points would be nice, but the healthy HP and fort saves were the only things really swaying me towards that archetype. Oh, and the fact that would would be as MAD.

Edit: Ah, I re-read your post and answered my own question. Hm. Looks like the standard Witch it is, then.

Focusing on being a Debuffer, instead of a battler, will prove more effective.

Slumber is brutal, and combined with the Misfortune/Cackle combo, is even more so.

Scarred Witch Doctor is much more durable, and the lack of familiar is actually a boon.

You basically need to decide if versatility, or durability, is more important to you.

Losing out on a hex for the archetype kind of hurts, but the durability may win out in this situation as the DM I'll be under has little use for AC and saves. He just like to dish out damage. I was looking to either stay out of combat with my standard Witch and hex/spell everything into oblivion, or just shrug off damage and stay in the thick of things with the Scarred archetype.

As far as feats go, I'll definitely want Improved Initiative and Accursed Hex. I'm thinking the only other option to really consider is Extra Hex. Should I stick with Half-Orc for the racial requirement, or should I choose another race with certain traits/feats to achieve the prereq for Scarred Witch Doctor?

He doesn't use AC, or allow saves?!?

Sorry for the incredibly late reply, but yes. He'll take note of our saves and AC for a while, but as soon as we start effectively dropping monsters and breezing through encounters, he'll "adjust" their scores and bonuses on the fly. Our only way to combat this is to make our own modifiers as high as possible so that he can't reasonably argue the insane numbers that his monsters are matching.

It's something that we're used to, which is why most people in this group favor getting as much HP as possible over AC.
