Playing with only one Mythic, Possible?

Wrath of the Righteous

So my question is would this campaign be possible having only one of the PCs be a mythic hero and the rest be regular adventures? The reason why I ask this is because I only DM one player and the rest of the party is made up of NPCs and it would just seem so much cooler if that player was the only one that is a mythic and that's why the story evolves around them.

So is it possible to pull this off without a lot of trouble? Maybe have a party of 5 to make up for it? Love to hear your thoughts.

It is possible. However, consider this: The "non-Mythic" suggestion for the campaign includes a significant boost for statistics for the non-Mythic characters thanks to the Wardstone, leveling up by fiat, free Leadership feats, and henchmen.

So I'd suggest 25-point builds for the PC and the NPC characters. You might start with three NPCs, and then have them take the Leadership Feat at 7th level to recruit some support staff - probably classes such as Bard, Cleric, or a ranged Fighter or Ranger (or Gunslinger). (Obviously don't boost their stats because of the Wardstone, and don't level up by fiat.) And be prepared for a high mortality rate among NPCs.

This helps a lot. Maybe what I will do is find a way to make some of the more "important" or "Favored" npcs be mythics in their own special way. Like maybe one is a chosen of a God and maybe one could be a "prodigy" caster. That way the PC can still feel special but not have to amp the difficulty up too much.

Do any of you have any ideas on interesting twists for the NPCs to keep them from falling too far behind?

You can just have the npc's accompany the hero to the ward stone and become Mythic the same way he does. Also have the npc's have wealth of at least a pc. Magic items come along quite often in Wrath of the Righteous too. My players just finished the 3rd book demon heresy at 12th level 5th tier characters and one of the characters has 400000gp with of gear and the other has 600000gp worth of gear (I do not now what my friends characters gear value is but needless to say he has 2 artifacts.) So magic items should not be a problem. Right now our group runs 3 characters and then a hound archon cohort (who rarely fights) and we are handling most encounters without much trouble.

I think what he's thinking of doing is having NPC "players" as well as the three NPCs that appeared in the AP.

Yep its the only way to get around not having enough players now days for us

I traditionally run a GMPC for my groups. Sad thing is, I've two GMPCs in the tabletop group... and ended up with four players (one via Skype). And the NPC that was supposed to get captured by slavers? Ended up having the new player's PC fall in love with her so it's difficult getting rid of her. (The Paladin is also entirely too useful for his healing abilities, though I might still kill him off.)

If the pipedream I have of eventually merging my Skype and tabletop groups succeeds then I'm going to forgo NPCs when I hopefully play WotR (outside of game-specific ones) for the first time in a decade. I'm not sure how I'll do it as I enjoy using NPCs to provide suggestions and hints. But it will be a challenge for me, and I need that as well. :)
