Dicounting the acctual "musket", where do you think one could find the typical dashing swordsmen with a rapier, highboots and swirling cape in Golarion?
My gut tells me Taldor, due to the spanish influence there but the byzantine, Roman flavor doesnt match up. Andoran perhaps?
Thoughts?
I'd go with Taldor, Ustalav (in a less gothic version of the place), Absalom, or Varisia (Korvosa already has its own version of Zorro - Blackjack).
The whole Rondlero thing is throwing me off Taldor. It seems odd that a culture where the Falcata and buckler, not to mention war elephants and phalanxes, are popular would entertain rapier wielding bravados. Perhaps its a 'new phase' wherein the old romanesque stuff is more traditional and slowing losing favor.
The Aldori swordlords of Brevoy fit the style pretty well, even incorporating the use of capes in combat.
Rondolero is Falcata & Buckler style iirc, while Aldori use longswords afaik. but since he OP didn't specify rapier, they might both be dashing/swashbucklerish duelists.
Apparently Korvosa (Varisia) has swashbuckling rapier duelists. Check out the short story The fencing master by Dave Gross for more info.
Also port cities, pirate cities etc.
I see Cheliax as spanish. So swashbucklers could fit well there. it even makes sense with Korvosa kinda being the mexico equivalent if you will.
Aldori sword lords are definitely swashbuckler types, and they don't use longswords but dueling swords.
Hmm, Im thinking that perhaps the reknown sword academies of Taldor might well include a master from one or more of these 'foriegn'disciplines, which would explain the presence of one so trained there in my campaign. Thanks guys for the help.
