Carrion Crown Shadowrun

Carrion Crown

Little off the wall, I know, but I'm thinking of running Carrion Crown through Shadowrun. Not using the SR rules, but to actually run it in the SR universe. I'll write more up and post it at some point in the near future, but was wondering if anyone else has thoughts on the idea?

I assume you're still sticking with PF mechanics, right? Well, if that's the case, I'd use some mods of the rule set. For example, Modern path has a lot of modern meets magic options, as well as modern weapons. Plus, Dias Ex Machina has Amethyst and Neurospasta for PF, which can be kitbashed together into a faux-Shadowrun game. In terms of thematics, I guess it wouldn't be too hard. It's like how in Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, the D20 Modern scenario has the team investigate weird happenings in a cliche literal Eastern Europe horror landscape.

Opps, I gave the wrong impression there. SR rules and SR universe. Was talking with someone in real life about it and said I was running CC in SR and they thought I meant using SR rules to run Golarion.

What I have so far focuses on Haunting of Harrowstone. Thinking of basing it in some out of the way location in Europe. Kendra is basically going to be Mrs. Johnson, hiring a group of runners to investigate her father's death. The connection between Lorimor and the runners will probably be downplayed, but we'll see.

More a little later...

Shadow Lodge

If this ever comes to fruition, I would be VERY interested in hearing more! I think it is an absolutely great idea that could wind up being one unforgettable SR experience.

For the whispering way you already have SR's Black Lodge!

They fit so well it's almost a slam dunk.....Darn! Now I have to play Shadowrun.

Grand Lodge

I'm currently running CC and recently got into SR and love this idea ... now to convert the party to the 6th world and jump them into a futuristic time period ...

More interest than I thought in this :)

What is the black lodge?

Dark Archive

Future tech takes a lot of the teeth out of Gothic Horror, in my opinion.

Victor Zajic...it easily can, and that's one of the biggest issues I'm worried about. I'm thinking about going through the books I have and looking at each piece of gear individually, and keeping note of anything that'll possibly ruin the horror aspect, then weighing how likely it is one of my PCs will get/want to get that particular piece, against what I might have to do to keep it from damaging the game...while still making it not a complete waste that they bought/are using the gear...

Right now I'm thinking The Whispering Way is a magical group trying to do a miscellaneous something (not really interested in adding in a thousand year old necromancer to SR...so I'm kicking around alternate ideas), and the first step involved breaking into an abandoned jail/asylum, Harrowstone.

What I'm thinking for Harrowstone is it was a first attempt at locking the magically active up shortly after the awakening, where things went very far south, and the place was quietly closed down. It'll likely have been a traditional asylum for much of it's career, but after the awakening a very under the table project came to fruition, where they tried to lock up several magically active sorts, the Five Prisoners.

The encounters within Harrowstone are going to be a mix of old school technological security, as well as spirit activity and paracritters. I'm thinking this would be a perfect place for toxic spirits to manifest.

One thing I'm running my head up against, is SR doesn't exactly have ghosts (least not to my knowledge), so what exactly are the Five going to be? Sure, I could just say my SR universe now has ghosts, but I'm curious about exploring other options. I'm a huge fan of the shedim, and have been wanting to run something featuring them for a while now. I could have a master shedim possess the Splatter Man's body and say the background count screwed up the possession and created something unique...then the other five could be shedim the SM summoned into those bodies...

Thoughts, suggestions?

Shedim are very fitting. But they may get old really fast if you replace every undead in CC with them. What about some Shadow Spirits?

I was thinking the Five Prisoners would all be shedim, and then having the rest of the encounters being miscellaneous spirits/automated security features/paracritters. I need to reread some of my SR books, shadow spirits sound familiar, but I can't place it. Out of third/forth edition what books would they be listed in?

I googled Black Lodge...not sure how I have no knowledge of this, coulda swore I'd read the third ed threats book, but this is completely unfamiliar. I agree, very good fit...

Sorry I didn't answer about the black lodge...just got back to this thread...

Shadow spirits are a type of free spirit...like anima like to be with people..tricksters are self explanatory...shadows like to torment/torture/degrade people.

They were, as to the best of my memory, in the 2nd/3rd/whatever edition of shadowrun magic supplements under the free spirits sections.

I hope that I have helped you out.

Absolutely, thanks for the input. I'm starting to remember the shadow spirits now, thinking I came across them when I was first introduced to the shedim.they will absolutely be making an appearance.

I need to come up with some old school security features now. Archaic drones and traps...that sort of thing.

Based on 3rd edition material you probably never made contact with the Black Lodge. It is almost exclusively from 2nd edition and only detailed in the great "Threats"-source book. But other threats from the book got more spotlight like Winternight, the Aztechnology Bloodmages and the Insect Spirit Conspiracy. 5000 initiated (from Grade 0 to 18+) black magic users working for a common goal would have been too much overkill for the metaplot. So they became more of an Illuminati-like rumor.

When I was looking through the details online it did sound like something pretty game changing. Think I'm going to go with the concept of it more so than the specifics.

It would have been very game changing and it's my suspicion that they dropped that plot line because of that.

But the fun part should be the conversion of Book 2. The Beast being a remote controlled Cyberzombie created by Count Caromarc aka Dr. Ronald Halberstam could be a nice starting point! :-D

And Vorkstag and Grine could easily be transformed into Tamanous Bodysnatchers.

Heh, had been a little worried about doing book two, but those are both very good ideas. Any chance I get to add in Tamanous I'll gladly take.

My fantasy went loose and here are my suggestions for the remaining books:

Book 3: Shapechangers/Black Lodge in an african hunting resort for the ultra rich. Feldgrau would become an abandoned Mega-city in war ravaged Africa.

Book 4: This is the hardest conversion: The Mi-Go become an Insect Spirits which are in conflict with some mutated toxic cultists (Skum) who venerate some Horrors from the other side in a coastal town of New England.

Book 5: Easy! Vampires stay Vampires. Probably taking place in a major european city like London oder Prague.

Book 6: This is harder. Probably tons of Shedim in an abandoned toxic zone like the SOX in Germany/Luxembourg.

The only thing for which I have no fitting idea so far ist the nature of the Whispering Tyrant himself.
