My Musket Master, Samuel has a single Musket.

'Bearington'

+1 Corrosive Holy Musket

It didnt actually have a name until I was playing Slave Pits of Abaslom and a party members pet Bear .. Bearington was horribly slaughtered. From there I decided as an ode to Bearington Id name the Musket after him. My Highlight is the pummeling I have to a certain outsider in 4-26 and then the single shot I managed on Krune before I died (am better now).

Bearington has been a lot more reliable than some party members.

All of mine have stories..

Ol' Painless. She told a slaver, just before she shot him, that he'd not feel a thing. 1st level mook, 48 points.. he didn't.
'Discretion' We were doing Race for the Runecarved and Kyrie was told to be discrete.. so she shot a wererat she saw with it.
'The Countess' was a 'gift' from the Paracountess, and she compared the ornate double barrel to her. ("They are both loud and ostentatious ladies who do wicked things to folk")

Don't forget, you can't enchant them till you have enough fame to buy the full value of the gun + enchantment.

Grand Lodge 3/5

Thank you for the heads up FLite, that was something I wasn't aware of.

So what you're saying is that since a +1 musket cost breaks down to...

1500 + 300 + 2000 = 3800 gp

I can't actually enchant it until I reach 18 fame (5250 gp)? Oh, the curse of having an expensive weapon.

Otherwise, everyone on the forums has inspired me to start looking for a good name for my Musket. I haven't had any good stories yet, but I do plan on holding onto and babying my musket for as long as possible.

Grand Lodge 4/5 **** Venture-Captain, California—Sacramento

well, +1 is always available. So you are fine there, but if you want a Reliable +1 musket, that would be: 1500 + 300 + 2000 + 2000 = 5800.

So that would be 22 fame. So, somewhere around level 4-5 range.

Grand Lodge 4/5 5/5 *

Yeah. Don't forget to get a scroll of make whole either. Never know when you'll need someone in the group to fix it.

The +1 part is always available, but the musket is not. So, a +1 musket would not be considered always available, and would require the fame to purchase.

Wouldn't the reliable make the weapon count as a +2 weapon total, making it 9800? (1500+300+8000)

Yes. It would be the 9,800.

Indeed which is why I'm running around with +2 muskets while other players are running around with +1 Adamantine Acidic Furious Viscous Greatswords @ 9th level.

Not just pistoleros Jayne...

Kyrie (my MM/Gren) has 3 guns
-Discretion: MW Pepperbox
-Ol' Painless: +1 Distance Musket
-'The Countess' +1 Conductive Double-Barrel Musket

Psst... don't tell Vera, but I've had a Buckler Gun since that trip to Tian with Amara Li... oh, a few months back. Only thing I've ever had to shoot with it was that mind-controling Spider, after she made me throw poor Vera in the corner with her fancy mind control spells. 'Course, Vera wasn't in the room, but she still wasn't happy with me. She's been a bit ornery since then...

Had my eye on one of them Dragon Pistols for a while... you know, to deal with swarms and such? But I did my lernin', and found they are very unreliable. You know what? Since I stopped thinking 'bout that pistol, Vera's been acting nicer!

Plus, I lerned of a little item called a "swarmbane clasp"... gonna git me one of those!

Grand Lodge 4/5 **** Venture-Captain, California—Sacramento

Sniggevert, you aren't buying a +1 musket, you are just adding +1 to an existing musket. Also, is there a faq somewhere, because the latest guide doesn't say anything about firearms not being allways available.

Du Nord, Yeah, wasn't awake yet.

Thanks for the correction.

Oh no worries.. just tell her what I told Ol' Painless..

"When the time comes.. you get to blow that conniving, double crossing, foreflushing scab of a backstabbing weasel Torch'."

Ol' Painless understands and knows that I like to stand off a ways and shoot folks from a 'respectable' distance anyway. Like 60 to 80 feet.

I don't like getting in folks way, you understand.. let the folks with swords get in and bash em.

Oh, Vera knows. She loves to hear the cussin' of the enemies... 'damned gunslingers' and all that.

I've got some new shinies for her now... she's gettin' a new enhancement this week... Seeking. Seems as if these spell jockeys have learned that we hit 'em pretty easy, like, so they throw up spells such as Blur and Displacement. So, Seeking takes care of all that! Figger that she (Vera) would like that, better than the Distance enhancement (though we'll have that afore we face Krune, I expect).

Vera an' me don't like gettin' in the way, neither. We do our best work from afar. 'Course, we've taught more than a few of our travelin' companions why we from Alkenstar pay heed to our muse, Tinnitus! We've had to shoot past the ears of more than a few allies in our day.

Found this on the upgrading equipment FAQ -

Kyle Baird wrote:

Q: I have a masterwork greatsword (350 gp). Can I upgrade it to a +1 weapon?

A: Yes. You can spend 2,000 gp and upgrade your greatsword to a +1 greatsword. Note: You can perform this upgrade regardless of fame.

Q: I have a +1 greatsword (2350 gp). Can I upgrade it to a +2 weapon?

A: Yes. You can spend 6,000 more gp if and only if you have enough fame to pay for the final item. In this example, your final item price is 8,350 gp and requires 27 fame to purchase (Table 5-3, pg 26).

Sounds like I'll be giving my musket a treat here as soon as I get the coin for it. Just took someone's suggestion and got some new ammo plus the abundant ammunition wand, so it'll be a few more adventures.

Oh yes, several of my fighter companions complain about her sweet song in their ears. They say that that she is called by my slugs whistling by their ears as I use them as a brace before they charge in.

It's not the FAQ, it's the AR that allows you to purchase a gun at all...

Additional Resources wrote:

But, you aren't actually BUYING a new gun, you're just upgrading your existing gun. That's why I believe the upgrading rules would be more applicable in this situation.

Grand Lodge 4/5 **** Venture-Captain, California—Sacramento

Ah, I remembered it being somewhere, but when I went to look for details I couldn't find it.

Hmm... Upgrade rules say you need enough fame to buy the upgraded item or the upgraded item must be always available, don't they?

Going to have go reread the upgrade rules and then think about it real hard for a bit.

Sczarni 5/5 5/55/5 ***

I think in the "How to Upgrade your Gear" thread we hashed this out many months ago, regarding guns and Dragonhide armors.

There are ways you can acquire a non-magical gun or Dragonhide armor without needing Fame, and then +1 enchantments are "always available".

There was never a consensus in that thread, and the question keeps coming up every now and then. I'd say it's the definition of table variance.

Liberty's Edge 1/5

I named my +1 Reliable Thundering Double-Pistol of Distance "Eternal Vigilance", but everyone else calls her "The Piecemaker". She's earned both names.

Yeah just keep in mind that scroll can only fix up to a +1 weapon. Anything above a +1 weapon is higher level than the CL3 that a make whole can repair. I had to ask the cleric nicely to prep make whole for me in the past because of this...

Vera, we've got a couple of bullets with GM Torch's name on them. Still not sure why you took pity on him, but it won't happen a second time. Plus, we've got plenty ready for Krune, right?

Vera's been my only gun, and we don't see the need for any others!

Unlike those silly pistoleros who keep changing their guns.

Varam raises an eyebrow. "This pistol," he says gesturing to the worn-looking but well-oiled firearm on his hip, "is the only one I've ever owned. As far as I know it was also the only one in the possession of its previous owner, the Pathfinder who saved my life at the cost of his own."

Starting single-barrelled pistol, upgraded to masterwork and then +1.
