Advice

So I'm running a survival campaign tonight. A first level group of adventurers is on a ship that was blown far off course by a massive storm. The captain and crew managed to hold the ship together, but then came under attack from a Kraken. I'm looking for some stats on Kraken tentacles to have the PC's fight those to get off the ship before it is destroyed. I'm thinking it could be something like this:

Kraken Tentacle
Large ________
CR: ??
HP: 2d10+10 (16 HP)
AC: 14 (+1 Dex, +4 Natural, -1 size)
Offense: Bludgeon +5 (1d8+3)
Str 16, dex 12, Con 20, Int --, Wis --, Cha --
CMB +5, CMD 16

If the tentacle attacks an NPC, it automatically grabs them as well, taking them into the sea. If it takes 50% of its health in damage from a single attack, the tentacle withdraws.

Does having around 3-4 of those sound like a good challenging encounter while you're trying to get off a ship? Any suggestions on stat tweaking? I'm not giving it any mental abilities as those would be from the Kraken itself.

Perhaps use the stats of a choker?

choker:

Choker CR 2

XP 600
CE Small aberration
Init +6; Senses darkvision 60 ft.; Perception +1

DEFENSE

AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 15 (+2 Dex, +4 natural, +1 size)
hp 16 (3d8+3)
Fort +2, Ref +3, Will +4

OFFENSE

Speed 20 ft., climb 10 ft.
Melee 2 tentacles +6 (1d4+3 plus grab)
Space 5 ft.; Reach 10 ft.
Special Attacks constrict (1d4+3), grab (Large), strangle

STATISTICS

Str 16, Dex 14, Con 13, Int 4, Wis 13, Cha 7
Base Atk +2; CMB +4 (+8 grappling); CMD 16
Feats Improved Initiative, Skill Focus (Stealth)
Skills Climb +16, Stealth +13
Languages Undercommon
SQ quickness

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Strangle (Ex)

Chokers have an unerring talent for seizing their victims by the neck. A creature that is grappled by a choker cannot speak or cast spells with verbal components.

Quickness (Su)

A choker is supernaturally quick. It can take an extra move action during its turn each round.

The creature's main body could be all the physical things here and since it has quickness it can 1. move a tentacle at a victim, 2. attack, then 3. pick up and move a character using the grapple rules.

Thanks, Mark. Went with that, and the party actually loved it! Now they get to try and survive on a long-forgotten continent... **Insert evil laugh here.**
