Creating magic item higher caster level than you

So I was reading through the magic item creation rules. It seems the only requirement set in stone is needing the feat to make the item.
Could you add a spell to an item that is higher than your current caster level for the +5 dc?
How about a potion at higher caster level than you?

In either case we can use magic vestment for example, dc 5+caster level+5 for not meeting the caster level requirement.
So DC 30 for a caster level 20 magic vestment.

You can definitely create an item who's default caster level is higher than yours.

Creating a spell-completion/trigger type item with a higher caster level is rather odd, and not directly covered by the rules. I believe whenever you create an item with a higher default caster level, it ends up with your caster level, but it's not very explicit in the rules.

To be clear, potions and spell-completion/trigger items *do* require the spell to be made. You can't +5 DC that away for those items (by explicit rule).

As a rule of thumb, you can't craft a magic item to cast a spell effect at a higher CL that you can. You CAN craft one that has a continuous effect greater than your CL would allow (e.g. a Ring of Protection with a higher bonus than your Shield of Faith spell would grant (and yes, the ring's CL is only 5 anyway)).

There are some ambiguities; a Necklace of Fireballs could be made by a caster who does not get 10d6 on their own Fireballs, but they couldn't make a Wand at 10d6. But that's where the GM can make judgment calls (since it's an expensive way to increase your spell damage anyway.)

You must possess the caster level for spell trigger items (generally wands or staves), spell completion items (generally scrolls), potions, and constructs.

Everything else can be made regardless of your caster level, provided you have the appropriate crafting feat and can make the Spellcraft DCs.
