Avengers Assemble cancelled?

I've watched all 11 episodes of the show, and while the animation is better then in Earth's mightiest heroes, story hasn't gripped me yet. Maybe because they lack an overarching coherent narrative like the old show.

There hasn't been an episode this week, and the date for the episode 12 is unknown judging by IMDB.

Anyone know anything?

No idea.

I haven't watched it (still bitter about EMH being cancelled) but if it was on Cartoon Network and this happened I would just shrug and say "Business as usual". I'm not familiar with how consistent Disney is with the broadcast of their superhero shows, though.

Sovereign Court

It ain't bad. It sorta continues off the movie but with added falcon. And it's ok for now.

I imagine it's just a delay for some reason. Not particularly uncommon. There was a massive delay between episodes of Gravity Falls a while back.

Silver Crusade

New episode Sunday.... "Avengers: Impossible!"

The Impossible Man comes to town...

Don't know how I feel about this show. Just wish they hadn't cancelled EMH, as it was the superior version. It at least focused on classic arcs that appeared in the comics. This new series doesn't seem to have that going for it at all.

Sovereign Court

Btw, who the heck was purple man anyway? I mean kudos for having Brent Spiner voicing him, but I've never heard of that guy before...

Purple Man: old foe of Luke Cage. Tangled with the Avengers as well. Massive mind control. Only a few beings are outright immune to it. Doom used him to control the world once; Wonder Man was surprisingly immune, rescued the Avengers, and saved the day. Also, he popped up in EMH, season 2. Not a nice guy.

He was originally a foe of Daredevil - DDs blindness gave him some degree of resistance to Killgrave's powers. He was indeed not a nice person

The animation style actually bugs me. The shifting back and forth between full screen animation and letterbox feels unnecessary.

They did something similar in Hulk and the Agents of SMASH, but I actually didn't mind it there, it felt like it fitted with the show.

Only thing that's really kept me watching Avengers Assemble so far is the banter between Hulk and Thor. Overall I felt like Hulk and the Agents of SMASH is the better title, certainly appeals to me more anyway. Haven't checked out the Spiderman one yet, whatever it's called.

The only thing that actually annoys me is the background of the city which is pretty much cartoonified photographs of buildings. It's a lame cop-out.

@ Tinkergoth.

Ultimate spidey is really for kids, although its pretty fun. I recommend it.

Love the fact that purple mans daughter became a super hero.

Not really a surprise, as Wonder Man is solidified energy. He doesn't have to breathe and his vision is extrasensory in nature. And have to agree, Purple Man has never been a nice guy.

Thanks Hama, I'll check it out.

I honestly really liked the animation in EMF. With Assemble, it feels kind of frantic while still looking off in some of the combat situations. I noticed a few of the Hydra minions in the first two episodes standing there, not even looking like they were aiming their guns, just kind of waiting to get smacked around. Reminded me of the Penny Arcade comic about Assassin's Creed III, where the Red Coats were actually lining up to get slaughtered by Connor.

IIRC, Wonder Man wasn't immune, Doom just voluntarily released him, because, as has happened on a couple of other occasions, he found that ruling over a conquered world where nobody opposed him to be rather boring.

Doom isn't quite on the same self-defeating level as Thanos, but he's not far off, either.

As for Purple Man, saying "not a nice guy" is quite an understatement. His mind-rape of Jessica Jones, lasting several months, being the most prominent example of how horrible he is.

I have to say that I do not like the way Imp was portrayed in today's episode of Avenger's Assemble. He was made to seem way too much like Mr. Myzptlk. Last time I saw anything dealing with Impy, he was just an annoying shapechanger that could teleport over vast distances or between dimensions.

This may have been it for me as far as this incarnation of the series is concerned. I've been trying to give this show a chance but today's episode just rubbed me wrong in every way. Maybe I'm being too critical but this was not what I wanted to see in my Avengers show.

Sovereign Court

Imp's kind of a minor villain, but this show doesn't even hold a torch to EMH. That. Was. A. Great. Show.

And then they derailed that, along with most all of 'My' Aplha Flight.

  • Heather, apparently still a bad guy on the run.
  • Madison, incredibly out of character, and now in limbo
  • Kara, currently in prison (WtH?) per Uncanny Avengers. (And they got her power wrong.
  • Larua, Goblyn, Whitman... in limbo.
  • Lil, pointless stupid death.

Of 'my' Flight, only Walter is left around.

And then you get into the other Alphans...

  • Previous series was much better but Justice league was even better (i'm more of a marvel fan). I felt this season the animation, acting, and storylines was weaker.

its interesting you should say that- I felt the exact opposite way when I saw myzptlk all those years ago on the show.

  • I'm sorry you didn't like it-I really wanted to see where they were going with it all, especially loved the part where puck was a conspiracy theorist.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I loved Kara Kilgrave. I fell in love with the character from the moment they depicted her mom coming home and finding her in the tub, desperately trying to scrub the purple off. That cemented her in the kid sister (back in the 80's) little daughter status. That Madison became her guardian meant a lot to me too.

Heather's journey from Team Mom to heroine in her own right should have been celebrated. I'd rather have her on the Avengers (or Jimmy Hudson) that Wolverine.*

Likewise with Madison. Depending on the writer, either he is a Forge/Tony Stark level inventor, or he can just use his powers to keep the gadget going. He's also (again depending on the writer) one of the most powerful heroes in the MU (Seriously, he turned part of the Boxbot into energy in one issue to blast apart Tundra. Here's a guy who could pretty much vaporize anyone with a bit of concentration.) Yet he was always portrayed as humble, middle class and lacking a bit of self confidence.

I just feel Marvel has been using the Flight as cannon fodder/things for the bad guys to show how powerful they are for way too long.

    Spoiler:
Personally I think hanging up the tights to be a real mom is just as heroic, but YMMV

    *** spoiler omitted **

I love box-he's one of my favorite characters. That saidhe is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpowered and needs a truly excellent writer to work on s team that comes nowhere near his power level.

Re: spoiler- this should be an option for every superhero. That said, it kills sales.

    Dark Archive

    [Alpha Flight tangent]
As originally introduced, Madison Jeffries had the power to make mostly inorganic materials (metals, glass, plastics) mimic the shape and function of his body (turning a box of scrap into a functional arm, or a volkswagon into a humanoid robot).

Once that mysteriously upgraded to him being able to make spaceships or giant rolling robot wheels with guns sticking out of them or transforming the Box robot in mid fight with wings and jet-engines to fly around, or blasters to shoot people, it got a little crazy. His power was *plenty* useful enough, turning cars into manbots to beat people up, without the ridiculous upgrade.

A lot of stuff, IMO, changed for the worse when Byrne left Alpha Flight. (Not the least of which, IMO, was Heather changing from a strong-willed but scrawny young woman with no super-powers or gear, to an amazon a full foot taller with boobs individually the size of her head, a functioning copy of Mac's suit, and an insane '90s badass attitude that led to her blowing holes in teammates when she didn't approve of their actions.)

Purple Girl was well after my time, but that series had a ton of interesting side-characters that, IMO, were either underused, or badly misused, especially after-the-fact, including Madison Jeffries and Diamond Lil and Marrina, but also less popular characters like Smart Alec and Flashback.

I didn't mind Madison modifying the Boxbot. He helped build it after all, and I assume a mix of his own powers on it, and a mix of designs he and Roger talked about would give him a lot of leeway.

I could even handle if they'd explained that some of his tricks came from the issue where he merged with Forge to rescue Jimmy Hudson. But he got too crazy too fast. (and before that event happened) I think when they looked at everything Scramble could do, they assumed to (overgive) Madison the same powers, then went farther.
(Train car into boxbot was the worst offender I could think of.)

I think Heather suffering babification was bad, her stepping up to take over the team leadership spot I was cool with though. As to her getting her version of the Vindicator suit, it was (re)built by Madison and Roger, using the Delphine Courtney robot as a basis, didn't seem that far off for me.

Anyway... They should have Alphans on Avengers Assemble.

No problem with vindicator eating her wheaties here.
