VERY nobbish question!

So I am a bit confused about Valeros (and weapons in general)

Lets just keep it simple so he is not choosing to recharge the weapon just reveal it and lets make it a simple longsword.

For the melee check do I roll/calculate the skill check as

1 d10 + 1d8 +3 (so following the wording on the longsword card)

OR>....

1d10+1d8 (for the sword) PLUS 1d10+3 (for the melee check on Valeros's card).

Longsword says "For your combat check..." meaning you use those dice instead of your normal combat check.
You would roll his MELEE die (1d10+3) & 1d8.
