Pirate Rob,
As I understand the "reality behind" the rebuilds, the adventure history is retroactively shifted so that the new version of the character had been the character who went on the adventure. (As opposed to: "I used to be a wizard named Exren. Then I was an elf rogue named Merisiel. Now I'm a dwarf cavalier.")

here's an earlier post about changing factions and these boons...
Changing Factions and Season 5 Faction Missions.
I'm not sure it will answer any questions though, as it didn't generate much in the way of replies...

It has been my personal GM policy to keep hard copies of the faction letters and hand them out before each Season 5 scenario. (I did something similar with the optional secondary faction missions back in Season 4.) Even if the faction the player is playing is not tied boon-wise to the scenario, it is good for the player to get a sense of the direction their faction would like them to be going.

Thanks to the person a few posts above who posted a readable version of the combined ( and quite colorful) Faction letters. The one in the GM share drive uses an utterly bizarre and unreadable font which is near impossible to read.
I have a story to tell below about the Wardstone Patrol. Spoilers entail but its definitely on topic
I had 2 Chelaxians in the party. A husband and wife both playing Chelaxians. The wife's character is a Wizard who is very interested in magical forces and items. One of the ways to get the boon (well 1/3) is to ask questions about the Wardstone.. how it is being disrupted etc). An 'Arcane source' it is covered by the Chelaxian letter and somewhat by the one liner and it was a good show there. However the other 2 ways to get the boon were not acted on. It was never brought up by either of the characters.
I did also mention at the start of the adventure that this scenario was particuarly apt for Cheliax, Scarzni and Silver C. I asked if people understood their faction missions. I got nods and someone said yes. People nodding is good, but I generally find that people will say yes even if they havnt done what they should have done.

I actually had something of the reverse experience with this one.
I had a Cheliaxian PC (3rd level) and went in to discover what was needed. Kind of funny really, as I had played my "non-combat" Cheliaxian PC (my other is a Ftr/Cav) so that I'd have a mix of social skills... I guess I had the "inverse skill set", because while I had the Diplomacy nailed down (and a lot of other skills) to get 1/3 of the needed information, I didn't have any of the required (5 or 6) other skills (which were all Trained only) to get another 1/3... so no boon for my little lady... :(
Overall, it was a fine scenario, the best in season 5 so far...
