Lightning Bolt vs Swarms

Is Lightning Bolt considered an AOE spell? Specifically when used against a swarm? It seems like it would affect them as long as they are in the 5'x120' area.

Yes

Because it fills a "line," it's still an area of effect - even though it's not one of the usual cone or burst shapes.

It makes me feel sad to realize that chain lightning won't do anything, when in terms of flavor it seems like the one spell I'd want to use against swarms. Sadly, magical electricity doesn't conduct (or not-so-sadly, if you're a character with Evasion whose horse just got zapped.)
