As per th subject heading. I'm in the middle of a PSOP session, so in the interest of time for the ruling, I'm just letting it go as a normal touch spell where it doesn't get lost. But I'm posting this, so we can get a more official ruling we can look back to at the end of the encounter. Any answers are appreciated.

The spell isn't on the sword; it's a touch spell being cast by the magus.
The only difference between spellstrike and a normal touch spell delivery is that the magus makes a regular melee attack in lieu of a melee touch attack. If the attack succeeds, the spell is delivered; if it fails, the spell is held, and the magus can attempt to deliver it the next time he gets to make an attack with any weapon.

Chill Touch is a touch spell just like any other, with the exceptional property that the charge can be used multiple times before it fully discharges.
But why can you hold the charge given this statement in the Core Rulebook?
Some touch spells allow you to touch multiple targets as part of the spell. You can't hold the charge of such a spell; you must touch all targets of the spell in the same round that you finish casting the spell.

Chill touch is not your standard touch spell, it has it's own particular mechanics.

This is for covering spells like dimension door or teleport or other spells that have beneficial effects with a range of touch.
