Will they survive? [three players team]

Wrath of the Righteous

So we start the Wrath of the Righteous soon. I have three players (all characers have good alignment ofc):

1. Human/Necromancer (Archmage) - He is planning to take later Agent of the Grave Prc (i will house rule it so he can still have good alignment - just for "white necromancer" concept).

2. Hellspawn Tiefling/Inquisitor (Marshal) - He took Armor Proficiency because he want to wear heavy armor later in game. Devastator kind of build. He choose Travel Domain and Fiendish Sprinter so he have 40(50 if charging) ft speed. He will fight with some 2-hand weapon. He took healing light wound spell.

3. Emberkin Aasimar/Hexcrafter Magus (Champion) - He is fighting with scorpion whip. Later when he will learn how to fly (hex) he will do a good use of it.

So my questions are...
1. Do you think they will survive through first AP? How much do i need to alter the ecounters?
2. We are still looking for 4th player. When we find one what class would you recomend for this team?
3. Any tips? :)

PS. Sorry for my english :).

There is a Mythic ability that would allow a player to take class levels or the like even if he or she fails to meet the alignment. 3rd Tier, Beyond Morality. So it would be doable at around... 10th level probably.

If you don't have a 4th player, consider a GMPC. You could always go with the Mute Oracle and thus not do a lot of roleplay. ;)

If you do find a 4th... I'd suggest a Paladin, to be honest. They're not "Awful Good" anymore so...

Dark Archive

I am playing through it right now with 3 players. Human Paladin (Guardian), Human Abjurer Wizard (Archmage), and an Aasimar Cleric (Heirophant). We are using the fast exp track and I already have some plans for side events. We have made it through the first 3rd of the first chapter doing quite good only trouble we have had is that we did not sleep before fighting our way to the surface and we had some trouble as my wizard was not able to really do anything.

I am planning to run this with a party of 3 Gestalts. Looking over the first 3 books I feel that my party will be just powerful enough to handle things but still have a tough time.

Am I off mark?

Probably. Gestalts can be made into some absurdly powerful characters especially when adding Mythic Tiers to the mix. Chances are your party will murderize their way through most of the content unless they consciously take poor choices just because.

It would work better to just have the regular classes and either run a fourth GMPC that is in a support role (a healer-cleric or a bard - or even a rogue with the rogue talent to auto-detect traps) or convince two of the players to take the Leadership Feat at level 7 so to round out their abilities. Gestalts are far worse than high stats.

We just started with three players:

Aasimar Paladin (Oath of Vengeance and Oath Against Fiends)
Elf Wizard Spellslinger
Aasimar Oracle Dual-Cursed Lore Mystery.

We are middle of module 1 or so, so pretty early but so far it is been a tad challenging sometimes without being unmanageable.

We actually had to use Potion of Cure, and I am burning through my daily lay hands every day, but it is fun :)

We ll see how it goes as we increase in levels.

I think you'd be just fine, AD. That all three of your players are playing caster classes (no higher than 3/4 BAB) should make things a bit more interesting for you, but they should still be able to do it. And while a GMPC is something you could go with, I'm not so sure it's necessary either, since there are a plethora of NPCs in this AP that could take up the mantle and help if necessary . . . especially a very unique one in Book 3.

@Rojosama: You will break this AP. Everything in it would become so pathetically easy for your players that--if they desire challenge at all--you will either be working your bum off to increase the power level of every book, or you'll fly through this thing in a matter of a few months while your players wade through everything in less than a full round. I've said it before: I don't believe the difficulty factor of this AP is there. You can make it difficult, of course, but it's not ingrained within the AP. Gestalt would make it a complete waste of time.

So far with 3 players we have lost one, but it was not from a fight but a cursed item. Brought in an Arcanist who almost died due to a feeble mind after doing a few 100 damage to a nelfeshness. We have had some good battles. Also we are leveling up according to the leveling path that is in each book.
