Silver Crusade 2/5

Hi all,

If i have a mage character that played two scenarios (as a gm) how can i learn more spells for my spellbook? Where i roll to learn or i wait until i play as a player for all the rolls?

Other qüestion: can i buy scrolls of more than level 1 spells with Prestige Points or Fame?

You can always purchase level 0 and 1 scrolls in PFS. They cost 12 gp, 5 sp for cantrip scrolls, and 25 gp for 1st level scrolls.

At Fame 5 you can purchase 2nd level scrolls at a cost of 150 gp, and 3rd level scrolls for 375 gp. At Fame 9 you can purchase 4th level scrolls for 700 gp, and 5th level scrolls for 1,125 gp. At Fame 13 you can purchase 6th level scrolls for 1,650 gp, 7th level scrolls for 2,275 gp, and 8th level scrolls for 3,000 gp. 9th level scrolls may be purchased at Fame 18 for 3,825 gp.

You could also use 1 Fame to purchase a 2nd level scroll, and 2 Fame to purchase a scroll of up to 4th level.

Once you have purchased the scroll you want, you then need to scribe it into your book.

After an hour studying the spell, you must make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + the spell's level). If you are specialized in a school, you receive a +2 bonus on this check with regards to spells from your specialization. If you fail this check, you must wait one week before trying again. The cost to scribe a spell into your book is the level of the spell squared, multiplied by 10 (5 gp for a cantrip).

Now, all of this is pretty well spelled out in the Core Rulebook (with addition of the Fame rules from the Guide to Organized Play). What is often overlooked, is that a wizard should never need to make that Spellcraft check at all.

Unless your Intelligence and Spellcraft bonus are the absolute minimum to cast and learn spells, a Wizard should always be able to take 10 and pass that check.

You should, of course, inform your GM that that is what you are doing. As the take 10 rules are often misinterpreted, be sure to have the text ready.

Why scribe off scrolls you don't fine in the adventure?!? You can learn from other people's spellbooks for half the scribing cost. So instead of paying 150gp for 2nd level scroll and scribing it for 40 GP for 190 GP, you can gain access with 20 GP and scribe for 40 for a total of 60 GP. Much better value.

Edit: Also scroll of 7th+ level spells may not be bought unless it appears on a chronicle sheet.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

the cost to scribe a spell into you spellbook is ("spell level"^2)x10 gp.
1st: 10 gp
2nd: 40 gp
3rd: 90 gp
4th: 160 gp
5th: 250 gp
6th: 360 gp

if you find a scroll in an adventure, or you borrow another PCs spellbook, you can scribe for those costs. as Thanis said, take 10 is available for this purpose.

If you do not find a spell in an adventure, or off another PC's spellbook, you must pay an additional 50% of the scribing cost to have a wizard from the Pathfinder Society, or a local Mage's guild lend you a spellbook to copy from.

Making the costs
1st:15
2nd:60
3rd:135
4th:240
5th:375
6th:540

hopefully that helps :)

You could reduces your scribing costs by taking the Cypher Script Feat from the Inner Sea World Guide (Warning has a rank Knowledge arcana and rank linguitics Prerequisites)

Just do not expect a wizard to charge you less for the copying because you can write smaller
