First of all, I am a fan of the Fame system for purchasing equipment. I think this is a great mechanical proxy for wealth by level.
My question is, what is the reason to have the table be so coarse? I mean, why are the jumps at 4 to 5 points? I would think, a table which set a purchase limit at every single point would be ideal. But if not every point, why not every 3 points?
Was there a mechanical reason behind setting the Purchase Limit table as it currently stands? If so, I would love to hear it.

Luckily, you can pretty much totally ignore the fame after a certain point, since you wont have enough money to buy at the fame limit
Unless you do crazy playing up dealie. At level 9.1 you can possible have a higher purchase power then what wealth you should have at that point. Kinda silly. Personally, think the fame buy limit needs a whole rehaul (since one could conceivably farm fame and gold if they are willing to burn scenerios as it currently stands...no I am not gonna say how on the forum). Basically, have it so primary mission completion gives fame, secondary/faction mission only prestige. Ever 3 fame, have the buy limit be half WBL (so 3 = 500, 6 = 1500, etc etc). This would solve the issue of extra wealth from playing up since you have all this extra gold BUT you can't get the uber items of doom that you can now with the current fame system. So playing up with extra gold will increase your power sideways(mostly), not up (if that makes sense) and this will eliminate the fame farming and reduce the impact of gold farming as well.

Cold Napalm that would not work as a level 9 with 40 fame would only be able to buy an item that cost 20K GP right now that same 40 fame lets you buy a 31000 gp item, items like a +3 weapon +4 stat boost belt or head band most boots and most wands. Not real great for a level 9 character.
This is why I think the WBL and fame need to adjusted upwards as this means that IMO we are playing in a low magic setting when Galorian is described as a medium to high magic setting.

Right now, level 9 can have 48 fame which lets them buy 41k items...or +6 stat boosters. That is WAY beyond what you SHOULD have at that level. The WBL for a level 9 is suppose to be 48k. Yes we go above that if we play up...by a good chunk (even if it's only playing up at the dead levels, we end up above WBL by around 50%). If we reduce what you can buy at the higher levels to something less silly then pretty much what a character of your level should have, playing up won't impact the game as much in terms of sheer power since they can't get that +6 item, +5 weapon (which you can get at one session into 9th), +10 armor...just a +4 stat booster, +3 weapons and +5 armor...which is seriously what your SUPPOSE TO HAVE AT THOSE LEVELS.

even if it's only playing up at the dead levels
If you're playing the right tier adventure, there's no such thing as a dead tier.
Tier 1-5 covers levels 1, 2, 4, and 5.
Tier 3-7 covers levels 3, 4, 6, and 7.
Tier 5-9 covers levels 5, 6, 8, and 9.
Tier 7-11 covers levels 7, 8, 10, and 11.
Between those four tiers, all levels fall directly into a subtier.
But yeah, when you fall between the subtiers of the scenario you're playing, you can earn a fair chunk of extra money, and the new out-of-tier rules for season five won't change that.
