I have a question regarding the background generator from Ultimate Campaign. On many occasions, a result from the tables has the text "You gain access to the so-and-so trait."
Is this meant to imply that a character whose background is determined by the generator can select his traits only from those he gains access to in this way? If so, how does this interact with traits from other sources than the general traits rules from UCA, such as from the various Player Companions?

I beleive the intent is to work in a 'closed environment' i.e. you're using the tables to generate character history, so it only references the triants in the book. Sure you could take, say, a taldor specific trait if in Taldor, but the background table is meant to 'point' you to traits that fit. Or, if the GM wants, to 'unlock' those specific traits listed, and only those traits.

Hm. Restricting traits to just those in Ultimate Campaign seems wasteful, considering how many of the Golarion books have more traits. Not even those from Quests & Campaigns, which is supposed to integrate with Ultimate Campaign, would be accessible in this way.
