For many people who have worried about generating weather for their campaign, this little link is a godsend to them: http://donjon.bin.sh/d20/weather
However, after playing around with it, I found that the generator creates devastatingly brutal winters. I set the climate to "Cold", season to "Winter" and didn't bother about the supernatural weather option for the moment. A week in Irrisen seemingly looks like this:
Temperature: Extreme Cold
High: -29°F (-34°C)
Low: -43°F (-42°C)
Relative: Normal
Wind Force: Moderate
Wind Speed: 13 mph (20 kph)
Temperature: Extreme Cold
High: -39°F (-40°C)
Low: -49°F (-45°C)
Relative: Colder than normal
Wind Force: Moderate
Wind Speed: 14 mph (22 kph)
Temperature: Extreme Cold
High: -31°F (-35°C)
Low: -48°F (-45°C)
Relative: Normal
Wind Force: Light
Wind Speed: 4 mph (6 kph)
Temperature: Extreme Cold
High: -27°F (-33°C)
Low: -46°F (-44°C)
Relative: Normal
Wind Force: Light
Wind Speed: 6 mph (9 kph)
Temperature: Extreme Cold
High: -31°F (-35°C)
Low: -43°F (-42°C)
Relative: Normal
Wind Force: Light
Wind Speed: 1 mph (1 kph)
Temperature: Extreme Cold
High: -38°F (-39°C)
Low: -50°F (-46°C)
Relative: Colder than normal
Wind Force: Light
Wind Speed: 10 mph (16 kph)
Temperature: Extreme Cold
High: -40°F (-40°C)
Low: -50°F (-46°C)
Relative: Colder than normal
Wind Force: Light
Wind Speed: 3 mph (4 kph)
Looking at the temperatures and the number of times "Extreme Cold" turns up, is it possible that this is too brutal for PCs to endure, or is this how Baba Yaga likes it? Also, is there a good alternative to the Donjon system?

sounds about right, we had a winter in the upper midwest about 10 years ago where for a week straight it was about those temperatures, i had to walk across town to work every night and it was brutal!!, but with cold weather gear, and nightly shelter it is possible, also welcome to the cold:)
it should also be noted we aways get a few days a year when it gets that cold, maybe not that much in a row, but our weather isn't super natural either, or..is..it?....

The generator is flawed.
Winter Temperate daytime highs are between 4 C and -7 C based on a run of 50 generations.
Winter Cold daytime highs are between -27 C and -44 C based on a run of 50 generations.
Which means that using the generator, getting a day time temperature between -8 C and -26 C is rare or impossible (nothing in that range came up in 50 generations). Except where I live in Manitoba, Canada that is exactly the range of temperatures that is most common for early and late winter.

I ran it with temperate summer (I did 60 generations) and didn't get a single day over 90 F... So Yea, there are some gaps in the program.
Still good way to quickly generate a bunch of weather... just tweak the temps a bit to fit you're local.
Edit: Oh yea, In game terms, I think -8C/-26 C and -27/-44 both fall under extreme cold either way... so players stuck outside without shelter or cold weather gear are SOL in both cases lol.

I use actual weather records for my Kingmaker game. I'm going to do something similar for Irrisen when my RoW group gets there. Find a place in the Labrador or Nunavut, and boom, you've got all the weather data you could possibly want. I find it's easier than random weather, and comes with some built-in versimilitude.
Try the Canadian Weather Office. The party won't be in Irrisen too long, so you likely won't even need more than one month.

I use the records for Winnipeg, Manitoba for what the weather is like at Oleg's. If it's 4612* in the game, I use the records for 1982. It's far enough back that no matter how long they play, there will still be plenty of data.
*4712? I have no idea.
