What are the best low level scenarios to introduce new players to PFS

With first steps II and III being phased out, what other tier 1-2 scenarios should be ran to introduce new players to PFS? I want to run scenarios that give the players a good overview of what sort of adventures are played in PFS.

My first choice would be #4-01 as an introduction to season 4's story, investigative encounters, and a dungeon crawl, but I don't have good choice for a third adventure.

Does anyone have a good choice for a third adventure to introduce PFS is new players?

I'll disagree with Rise of the Goblin Guild, just because a couple of the combats can be brutal for an inexperienced group at level 1. The real issue in my mind isn't story considerations, but the fact that some scenarios that have a 1-2 subtier are just too difficult for a group of newbie players with level 1 PCs. These include Severing Ties, Rise of the Goblin Guild, Quest for Perfection part 1, and The Devil We Know part 1, just off the top of my head.

But there are plenty that would work just fine for a group of fresh level 1 PCs, especially if you don't mind going back to earlier seasons to find them. Frostfur Captives, Assault on the Kingdom of the Impossible, The Icebound Outpost, and The Disappeared are some of my top choices.

The Quest for Perfection trilogy would actually be a great followup for level 2 PCs, or any of those others I mentioned as being too tough for level 1.

If you are looking for a long term walk through the levels with the same characters I would suggest starting with the Crypt of the Everflame module (counts as a whole level of xp in PFS) which can lead into two more related scenarios which also count as whole levels of xp. These are Masks of the Living God (for lvl 3) and City of the Golden Death (lvl 5).

I would go with the Crypt first though as it's story has to do with new adventurers.

Once they are level 2 I would go with Veteran's Vault. It's a fantastic scenario that highlights a number of things for PCs to be prepared for and expect. It is light on role-playing though so I would pair it up with God's Market Gamble since that has lots more role play opportunities while still offering challenging encounters.

When running these I would recommend that you don't hesitate to jump in with advice on tactical decisions in combat. They can be a great way to demonstrate that just charging in is often a (far) inferior tactic compared to taking your time and making the enemy work at trying to take out the party.

I like a lot of the Season 0 scenerios because they introduce elements of Pathfinder and Golarian. They take more work though, being 3.5.
Mists of Mwangi introduces Blackros Museum (and updated to PFS) and Silent Tide introduces Grandmaster Torch. Lots of them deal with the different factions too, but I have not played/run them yet so I can't recommend per se.

Sovereign Court 5/5 Owner - Enchanted Grounds, President/Owner - Enchanted Grounds

Master of the Fallen Fortress remains one of the best options ever done for an introductory PFS scenario. It is generic enough to ignore the PFS angle, but has an easy hook to introduce PFS to players. It is a single session scenario that can be accomplished in 5 hours or less, and has lots of unique encounters and situations that must be overcome.

Before the Dawn 1 and 2. Part 1 is a solid scenario, but if THE fight (if youve played or GMed it, you know which fight I mean) in Part 2 doesnt get a new player hooked on PFS, then you're doing something wrong. :P

MotFF is good, but remember it is only worth one PP.
FSP1 is still going to be good, as long as you keep your eyes on the Ledford. ;)

For a third level 1 scenario, I would tend to recommend 5: Mists of Mwangi, as that can easily show players just why they should have and use those Knowledge skills. And show them that diseases are nothing to be sneared at....

MOTFF is thematic, but the big bad can easily off an entire group of 150gp geared first level characters that don't have the right party composition.

Then, because of PFS rules i can't figure out, You get no prestige points for it and no dayjob roll for it, which is a kick in the teeth for running one of the harder "welcome to first level" scenarios out there.

Yeah, I can't figure that out. I seem to remember that didn't use to be the case, and I wish they would lift that restriction and make this match up with other scenarios. After all, rescuing that guy SHOULD get you fame, no matter whether you're with a faction at that point or not.

Of course, as an opening adventure, most players don't have a clue what all that is, anyway. They get wide eyed when I explain it to them, and end up looking forward to having that option during the next games they play. It works out.

As for the "deadly" factor, I think this can pretty easily be mitigated. It is, after all, a "learning" adventure. There's no reason a GM can't give a little advice to his newbie table. It's not like they're all tactical geniuses already as they enter into this.


As a player my first intro to PFS was Rise of the gobin guild, I didn't find it overly difficult, But many factors play into how difficult a scenario is. It has lots of role play opertunities and interesting combat the items on the cronicle sheet also can not be overlooked in making this a great intro scenario. I think it has something for everyone.

What are you talking about?...

Yes you don't get a Day Job roll, that is true for all modules, but you do get Prestige for it.
