Never been to Gencon. Won a badge one year at Winter Fantasy but the trip fell through. I am an eternal member at Dragon con, which is, what, a month after Gencon. Hard for me to do both and stay married. :)
I have been to Origins once back when it rotated and was at Dragon con (1990?). And I have done Winter Fantasy 4 or 5 times at three different venues. Its a good time of year for me as nothing else is going on.
Might like to make a Paziocon someday...

Brother Silas Benedictine |

Dragoncon is fun and is actually the closest to where I am, but Gencon has a lot more "things to do" that interest me. I debated Seattle for Paizocon this year, but opted to return to Gencon because I know what to expect. Paizocon is still kinda new.

Hugo Smith |

What is this "Con" of which you speak?
I kid ofc, but we got none of these newfangled fancy "Cons" where I live : /
Thats what I get for living in a tiny country!

Zinny Holbern |

Hey Bossman GM,
Is this the diagram you are referring to?
I know we've already moved past it in game, but attacks of opportunity are something that trips up EVERYBODY at some point or another, so I figured it might be worth going over just for further clarity for all of us.
The diagram presents two different methods, #1 and #2, by which the fighter can move in. One of them (#2) provokes an AoO, the other (#1), does not. In the case of the one that does, the square in which the boomy graphic occurs is a square threatened by the goblin-- the Fighter provokes not for moving INTO it, but for moving OUT of it when he moves into the next square, where he stops his movement. And he provokes two attacks because the ogre, who has reach, also threatens the boomy-square. Hopefully that is clearer phrased like that.
As Hugo said, props for not getting flustered by it-- great GMs make mistakes all the time, it's how you react to it that matters. :D
I'm personally having a lot of fun!

GM &rew |

Yep - that was the one. I assumed the fighter moved and attacked, so got hit even though he was attacking. Now I see it was because he moved through the square.
Yea, last time I seriously played D&D there were no attacks of opportunity, nor feats, nor skills (yes, I'm ancient, like a dragon =) So there are a lot of new rules to catch up on! This is the best way to learn, though, and you all are making this fun!
I already have a whole set of mini-adventures like this in mind, with a few story lines flowing through and personal links to at least one of your characters (like Abi and John in this one!) Won't hurt my feelings if anyone decides to bow out after this...but I hope we can continue this 'cause it's making a great story!

John Keel |

Jeez, you guys post fast! I feel like my intermittent posting makes Keel come off as a bit dull/unresponsive. I've been trying to play it off as him frequently pausing to think and assess everything, but I can't help but feel like there's a little AFK bubble that keeps appearing over his head. >:)

Brother Silas Benedictine |

Well, you beat a lizard to death with a nightstick and you don't say much. I'd say that qualifies you as the strong, silent type. Chicks totally dig that kind of thing, so they'll be all up in your codpiece. (I heard that hottie Piann is single now, too, btw.)

John Keel |

Arrrrgh! Dammit!
I had a great big speech planned for Keel at the end of the encounter, talking about "you guys are awesome, thanks for doing this, never forget why we did this, we're no heroes, hopefully none of you have to do this again", etc, etc, and I was going to post it but my lunch break ran out (so I only had time to post my one remark in the Discussion here), so I saved it to an online clipboard to post when I get home...
...Only to find that the adventure completely wrapped up and finished without me! Nooo! :(
Bah, guess I just have to throw it all away...

So, are we splitting that gold total up and taking a share or how are we handling it? Abby needs the gold to pay for the four children who're going to be living with her, since I know she's taking them in.
Abby will end up with a heavy wooden shield once everything is said and done-- some kind of weapon or armor to hang on the mantle, ready to use, so this won't happen again to these kids.
And since Abby's going to be a "mom", she's likely to get mom hair... plus, the other icon wasn't exactly what I wanted, just good enough. This is good for now!

Zinny Holbern |

Zinny, ICly, would not expect any gold for doin' what she had to do-- ICly she would suggest giving it to the families of the dead people, which I am also fine OOCly with. Her share at least will go to the victims' families. As long as she can keep a suit of armor and a javelin she is fine.

GM &rew |

I'll divide gold out later tonite. The people didn't want the armor, and the leather pouch seemed to be an accumulated horde for the lizards - not from Cromm's. You may do with it as you wish ;-) The survivors of Cromm's hold all relocate or move to Daggermark - there were only about six survivors plus Abi's four cousins. The 50gp trade equivalent is for your character and non-transferable...

Great speech, Keel. It was honestly cool how you worked the title in, and I normally groan at that.
Also: so we're at flat 1,000xp? Darn. Let's go grind mob packs in the woods for rare drops! Who's with me?!

GM &rew |

4 gp to fit the suit. I think a halfling should be able to use a short bow with no penalty - it would almost be like a human using a long bow. And, since it is both Masterwork and composite, I see no reason to penalize you at all :-) Better set up that target range behind the tavern and start practicing.
You will need to purchase arrows and a quiver...

Tomid |

What Tomid will want the most, to kick off his career is a set of masterwork thieves tools. Always buy good tools. Those run 100 gp. He wants that small rapier, a good selection of arrows (normal, blunt, alchemical silver, cold iron), a small mace, and maybe some alchemicals.
Later he will want a chain shirt but the leather will do him for now.

John Keel |

Had a really busy weekend. It might be a few more days before I can get around to a properly long post that's all prettified and everything.
Loose summary of events:
Keel returns to the Night Watch, hooks up with Gault and Jorgan, and is "honored" for his actions by the Guard Captain by being promoted from Constable to Sergeant. However, being Sergeant in the Night Watch is about as much "responsibility and prestige" as Class President, so nothing actually really changes. Still, they do get nice shiny steel breastplates added to their uniform for their trouble (upgrading the Night Watchmen to the equivalent of Studded Leather Armor)
They get a 4th kid on the Night Watch, and Keel putters around for a couple weeks, getting gloomier and more depressed as he can't get over the stress and violence of the adventure. He takes to drinking more and more, and one night after someone at a bar goes all hero-worshippy on him for the Nth time, he starts thinking that heading back out there might not be a bad idea. He drunkenly convinces himself to do it, staggers back home, then wakes up the next morning to see what the day brings...

GM &rew |

So far I know Abi, John, Hugo, and Zinny are up for more. I'm pretty sure Tomid wants more, too, based on some of his earlier comments.
I'll give you all another day or two and then launch the next little adventure. In game time, about three months will pass (this should correspond to everything written so far...)
If you haven't yet, please update your character page with updated gear and stats (including the tag line under your name in posts =) Let me know what you are getting and how (gp or favors or both). I'll reserve the right to veto/modify.
@ Zinny - I don't think one could change leather armor into lamellar leather, so let's go with the studded leather armor. Your leather armor can be modified into studded leather, so it will only cost you 15gp in trade value (25gp for studded minus 10gp for current leather).
Oh, and between Silas and Doc, they determine the potion you all found was Cure Moderate Wounds (cures 2d8+3 points of damage).

Tomid |

Tomid is in.
He will use his money get his armor modified to fit him and to order masterwork thieves tools and maybe pick them up when he is on his little pilgrimage. He will also get a small rapier, a sap, and a number of unusual arrows (cold Iron, silver, and blunt). He also buys a real silk rope and a grappling hook.

Tomid |

Tomid will have to hold off on the rapier for now. If he gets the chain shirt and the MW tools he is gonna be broke. And on average a small rapier is less than a point more of damage than a dagger. Threat increase is nice, but sneak is not doubled on a crit...
