Has anyone here already played a skirmisher?
Is it any good?
What kind of hunter tricks would you recommend?
I have a player at my table who plays a ranger(freebooter) and who, for roleplay sake (which is fine for me) doesn't want to use spells (he's a superstitious former slave), so we went for the skirmisher and we would like to have some kind of back up on this archetype.
Thanks all!

I am playing one, but he has not gotten tricks yet.
I like the flavor and the idea, there is some debate over how the tricks work.
There is one that lets you take a 5 ft step, some people say that you do not get to use that in addition to a normal 5 ft step, which makes it crappy.
Overall they are certainly less powerful than spells I think, but I like it

Chameleon Stride is awesome, if only for the extra movement. If he bonded with an animal, then Sic 'Em is also pretty solid. And, of course, Vengeance Strike is likely the most powerful of the presented options.
Honestly, there are very few bad hunter's tricks. Playing a Skirmisher, I found myself really wishing for an extra hunter's trick feat, because there were just so many I wanted.

You might also look at the Spell-less Ranger from Kobold Press. In addition to being a full alternate ranger class, complete with archetypes etc, it has quite a few ranger talents to pick from. Oh, and one of the feats included is Extra Ranger Talent :)
Looks good, but we're only doing Paizo material!

- Chameleon step is very good for mobility.
- Ranger's Counsel can help the party's skill monkey, or Skill Sage helps you if you're the party's skill monkey.
- Rattling strike is very nice to help the party casters if you hit once... if you hit again while using this trick the target is frightened, a third time and he's panicked. They're all free action, so you can do this with 3 attacks in a single round if you're lucky. Panicked foes drop anything they're holding, so it's like disarm++ as an added bonus.
- Surprise shift can save your day and allow you to shift, make a full attack and take your 5-ft step to move elsewhere... nice if coupled with cover and archery style.
- Tangling attack is very solid. It's basically +2 to hit the target for everyone for a round, including the ranger on following attacks, and the target has -2 (-4 if dex based) to hit and his speed is halved. This, in addition to...
- Hobbling Attack to reduce the target's speed even more if you routinely fight foes that like to run away. Since they're free actions, you can use both of them in the same round if you hit the target twice.
- Uncanny senses lets you pinpoint invisible foes when you need to, if your perception is high enough.
These are the 7 tricks that I would choose in my carreer, from 5th to 17th level.
Trick shot seems good but you should get a +1 seeking longbow instead.
Cunning pantomime... meh, use a potion of tongues instead, or let the casters do their casting.
If you have an animal companion that is good on melee attacks, Sic 'Em is also a very good choice.
