Bards, Sound Striker (Weird Words) and Inspire Courage

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

Hello,

I have a bard with the Sound Striker archetype. I did some searching, but I am still unclear on a few things...I am still only 4th level and I want to understand this ability before I use it.

1) If I have Lingering Performance, with Inspire Courage going, and I use Weird Words, can I use the buff from Inspire Courage on my attack/damage rolls for weird words?

2) Can I critical hit with weird words?

3) Can I direct all of the attacks from Weird Words to one target?

4) As and Su ability, does it bypass DR? I read that DR still applies, but
I just wanted to make sure because it is a Su ability.

5) Do weapon feats apply to Weird Words?

Thank you.

1. No, Inspire Courage ends as soon as you do another performance (which Weird Words is).

2. Yes, it crits on 20 for x2.

3. This is a grey area. I'm not sure if there ever was an official confirmation or not, but I'm in the "sure why not" camp.

4. I believe the rule is that if it does physical damage (it says it does slashing, piercing, or whatever can't remember which off the top of my head) DR applies, even though it is a magical source. I could be wrong.

5. Not sure.

1: No, because Lingering Performance specifies that if you begin another performance (which weird words is) that other perfomances immediately cease.

2: Yes.

3: Yes.

4: DR still applies, because they said so. Ostensibly because it does physical typed damage, either B/P/S. (But more, I think at least, because of the way the question was phrased when it was asked in the thread about it, in order to generate an "OMGnerf it." "A Sound Striker with Weird words at 10th level can do ~100 (10D8+60) damage on a standard action, as a ranged touch, no SR no DR. This can't be right?" Completely ignoring the Fort save for half for each word, the best save for the most creatures at 10th level with a >60% chance of success on average at CR 10/11.)

5: Depends on the GM. They are not rays, weaponlike spells, or weapons. So by RAW, no. However, most GM's apply the firing into melee/cover from firing through allies penalties, which also only apply to weapons/weaponlike spells/rays, so either you don't get the penalties, or if you take them, you should get the benefits.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for the input everyone. It helps flush out the character. Have a great week.
