I have for a long time contemplated the use of marbles. I have always thought that dropping them on the floor and expecting the big bad to conveniently slip on them was more than a little improbable. So after much thought I came up with this:
You are in a very dark dungeon and your light spell is only good for 20 feet. If you cast a light spell on a bag of marbles then toss the marbles outward from you then you could light up a large area.
I am doubtful if this is legal though. You can only cast light on one object and maintain only one light spell. So would it be the bag that was lit up or would all the marbles inside be also? Would the marbles in the bag only glow as long as they are in the bag? Take them out any they go dark?
If it was legal it would be useful.

Rules as written, you could probably only cast it on either the bag or a single marble. At that point you are better off just throwing a sunrod or a torch.
An alternative to all of that is casting light on a length of rope, then you get 50 feet of light with a 20 foot aura in every direction stemming from the rope.

That casting light on a rope trick was fixed in an errata some time ago. The Core Rulebook says on page 304:
This spell causes a touched object to glow like a torch, shedding normal light in a 20-foot radius from the point touched...
The PRD has the old text and hasn't been updated. The current printing (or the PDF) of the Core Rulebook and d20pfsrd.com has the correct wording. No more 50 feet of lantern.

Light, Arcane Mark, Silence, pretty much any spell that can target an object might justify carrying a bag of marbles.
Of course, if my character carries a bow or crossbow I usually just use ammo as things to cast onto. Then I can shoot my spell epicenter ~100 feet if I need to.
Can you shoot a marble out of a sling? Does it deal regular sling damage or "stone" sling damage?
