Book Binding??

I've noticed several posts here on book binding. Well I thought little of it until this weekend and my core of less than 8 months or so age basically started to come apart. Maybe the binding is not up to snuff for the size of the book.

The ones our group use range from several months to years in age and there has been so sign of binding issues. Is yours a 5th printing? I ask because ours are first through fourth and clearly show no sing of damage in regard to binding.

I believe it is a 5th edition. I have 2. The first is about 8 months old and its coming apart. The second is only about 5 months or less and it already shows signs of coming undone.

Its not the page binding its the cover that is coming odd. I thing the book is just too big for the cover to stay glued.

There are way way to many factors that cause a book to fall apart or come unbound in that way. Unless it happens in the first 30 days of the purchase of the book. Nothing that Paizo can really do.

My suggestion is either go to a book binder and have it rebound or to a place like Fed Ex Kinkos and have it spiral bound instead.

Other then that your only other alternative is to replace it. Paizo is NOT going to make the book smaller and suggesting that it is to big, not really accomplishing much to be honest.
Good luck.

Can you email me a picture of what you mean by coming apart? (customer.service@paizo.com)

I'm also experiencing issues with the binding and pages on my hardcovers. I have copies of all the hardcovers and the amount of binding/quality issues is rather high.

The back half of my Inner Sea World Guide is not glued adequately at the top and the pages hang down a bit making it challenging to read.

My GameMastery Guide actually came with two pages glued together that I tried my best to gently separate them, but they ripped a bit where the glue had stuck.

My Core Rulebook came with one slightly torn page and the binding is starting to give a bit. There is also a large bubble of glue under the paper on the inside front cover.

All the books have been purchased with the last 3 month as I just started playing Pathfinder at the end of February.

I doesn't seem to be an issue with the durability of the cover or the paper stock for the pages. It looks like the adhesive has either been applied unevenly, in insufficient quantity or is of poor quality. I've seen posts about the softcover books also having issues, which also suggests the adhesive may be at fault.

I really love the game and feel that Paizo has done an excellent job with the rules, artwork and setting. I'm a bit disappointed with the physical quality of the books though. I still have 1st edition D&D books that are in better shape than these.

Please consider increasing the binding quality of the books. If it requires a more expensive binding to get the job done I think most players would be willing to spend a bit more for higher quality.

Great job on the content of the books though! Keep up the great work on that end!

You've had a really unfortunate run of luck. Other than the CRB, there haven't been many issues of binding/misgluings with the hardcovers.

Can please send us pictures of the damaged books? Our email address is customer.service@paizo.com

Is binding issues common with adventure path books? I opened my Sword of Valor book for the first time and it started coming apart on the back 20 pages lol. Will send pictures but thought it would be pointless as I got it over 30+ days ago. :/

No its not common, usually it means an incorrect amount of glue ended up on the binding. It can feel more prevalent on the CS forums because you are only seeing reports of the issue and not the number of perfectly fine copies which are what people typically receive. A good way to help prevent issues with the glue cracking is to crease the covers on the fold lines (about 1/4 inch) from the binding's edge. Doing this helps keep from over stressing the glue and causing cracks. Another thing that can cause the glue to fail is the atmosphere, Extreme heat, cold or moisture can negatively affect the integrity of the glue.

If you bought a book from us that is defective, please do not hesitate to contact us. We do understand that some customers do not read or open their books immediately and thus may not find an issue until much later.
