Robes (or Bracers) of Mage Armor And Shield Spell

Advice

my step son is playing a sorcerer and wanted to boost his AC, so i was trying to make an Magic Item to help him, so i wanted to make a robe or bracers that used Mage Armor and Shield, doesnt need to be active at once but it would help if they could. yes i know they wont stack with armors or shields which the spells provides Armor and Shield bonuses and cant be enchanted like armors and shields would.

so the cost(continuous effect)
1st lvl x 1st spell x 2000 (2x continuous effect) = 4000 Mage Armor
1st lvl x 1st spell x 2000 (2xcontinuous effect) = 4000x1.5 = 6000 Shield Spell
so in total 10000g or am i doing it wrong formula wrong?

This is a prime example of why the item design rules tell you to first compare your proposed item to existing items. Continuous mage armor already exists in the form of bracers of armor +4 at 16000 gp. There is no existing item that gives a +4 shield bonus but such an item would run 32000 gp for a +4 non-armor bonus. I am assuming you don't actually care about the immunity to magic missile that shield provides, if you did want that it would be more. Combining them into a single item that grants +4 armor, +4 shield, you're looking at about a 56000 gp magic item.

Be very careful using that table unless you are an experienced GM - you can build items very easily that come out "off" in cost relative to anything else in the game. Especially be careful with making items of personal range spells, which are often more powerful but balanced to be only cast on the caster.

Not sure about the formula, but Bracers of Armor already do half the function, which is basically spreading Mage armor(which is a requirement) from +1 to +10 if I recall, so this shouldn't be cheaper than those.

Why buy Bracers of Armor +4 for 16,000gp when you can make Mage armor bracers for 4,000gp for same armor? You have to compare the custom items to existing items and tune them as needed.

Using the magic item creation, there is a specific AC bonus formula.
AC bonus (deflection) - Bonus squared x 2,000 gp.
Natural Ac bonus (enhancement) - Bonus squared x 2,000 gp
AC bonus (other) - Bonus squared x 2,500 gp.
(other such as luck, insight, sacred, or profane bonus.)
