[Jehova's Arena, Test] Fight the Twenty-Seventh, Bruno vs. Kirk

Play-by-Post

I believe this is a straight up battle for third level, it would seem the RNG gods have seen fit to make things interesting even in a sea of newcomers!

Bruno rides out astride Esmarelda to a roaring crowd. Onlookers appear to have come from all over the arena, saving the time to watch this fight unfold. Some have their smelly, threadbare shirts off, slinging them around above their heads with much hullabaloo, others simply yell and roar through nasty, often broken teeth, but the sentiment is support and encouragement. Bruno also sees Rolg, sitting in a special box above the smallfolk, in his suit of gleaming armor.

Kirk, although more of a newcomer than the dwarf, has his share of fans in the crowd as well. Among skinnier peasants especially, and some of the more skilled laborers whose muscles don't rip as much through their shirts as their peers, there is much applause at the Elf who has consistently toppled his martial foes.

Bruno is in A10, Esmarelda in AB1112, Kirk in L10. Initiatives and such.[/ooc]

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno nods to his respected combatant-friend (and the only combatant he has ever lost to) in the stands before lifting his lance high to the crowd. His history of dental neglect and general lack of personal hygiene notwithstanding, he looks very much the part in gleaming chain mail. His trusty pick hangs at his side, along with three untouched Pillum across his back.
Esmeralda seems to be in tip top shape as well (relatively speaking as she smells worse than the dwarf). Her studded leather barding looks clean enough and a couple places even shine in the light.

Init. dice:

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

Init.= 23

Elf

Kirk enters the Arena with an overconfident smirk. The kind of smartass smirk you tend to hate. He is an 6 ft 3 in tall elf with silver hair, dressed as a common traveler. You can make out something looking like a crossbow on his back and a blowgun on his belt, the only armor you can see is a haramaki. There is a dusty rose prism flying around his head, it looks like it has already seen it's best days. You can also make out a scroll case and some alchemical items hanging from his belt.
Kirk is accompanied by his miniatur giant space scorpion Uhura (just a greensting scorpion) who readies for the fight at L9.

Initiatives:

Arbiter:

Kirk

1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29

Uhura

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Kirk:29
Uhura:4

Are you mounted already or do you two share initiatives?

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

We share initiative as her primary role is as mount. I would be mounted, but we changed that rule to avoid me splattering things in the surprise round.

Elf

That's a tricky one since you have so many options. Here we go:

:: Suprise Round ::

Kirk waves his hands and mumbles arcane formulas Casting a spell (DC 16 Spellcraft).

Arbiter:

Cast Shield

Bruno and Esmeralda are up.

P.S. sry, my internet is horribly slow again :(

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Dice:

ride: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Bruno puts a hand on Esmeralda's saddle and mounts a little slower than usual. He edges Esmeralda to the side before covering his unusual lack of dexterity by shouting, Have at ye, puny Elf! and launching a great glob of phlem at Kirk.

I think that was my first failed ride check. :(
Now mounted and in A-B/10-11
Kirk and bug up. :P

Elf

You two are in A 12 then right?

[edit] sry, large creature, got it :)

Uhura will move to J10 then.

Thinking about Kirk's round 1 action...

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

no one is in A12

Elf

Does Kirk see any ranged weapons or potions on Bruno?

[edit]nvm, a pilum is a ranged weapon...

Elf

:: Round 1 ::

Kirk answers the disgusting display of the Dwarf with a deprecating gesture slightly turning his head away.

Kirk weaves some gestures again, mumbling some arcane formulas concluding them by throwing some sand in the direction of Bruno and Esmeralda.

Arbiter:

Cast Sleep

DC 16 will save for both of you please

Kirk Only:
Sleep remains a full round action :P

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Rolls, if needed:

Bruno: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Esmeralda: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Bruno:16
Esmeralda:5

Elf

I'm sorry, I'm just not firm enough with the rules. Kirk's spell is not completed this round (I'm ok with you keeping the saves if you wish).

Kirk takes a 5 ft step to L09

Bruno and Esmeralda up.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno growls. He can't get to his main opponent because of the little bug in the way. So, he charges the little bug.
Charge to H-I/10-11
Attack:22
Damage:19
E. Attack:18
E. Damage:7
Kirk up
I love charging. :D

dice:

ride: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
damage: 2d8 + 12 ⇒ (2, 5) + 12 = 19
If I make ride check DC 10
E attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
E damage: 1d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Bruno Only:
Actually, reach weapons use the ranged weapon rules for cover, so if you're alright taking the -4 from the soft cover (which I'm not even positive applies since the scorpion is tiny), and giving up E's attack, you can still charge Kirk. It's possible I missed something in the charging rules that prevents this, but since lances have reach I see no reason why that wouldn't work.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Arbiter:
If Esmeralda had the lance then I would have the reach. Bruno is still medium and only reaches to 10'. Kirk is 15' away by my count. If you see otherwise, then I'll follow your rule and of course take the attack on Kirk, I'm just doubtful I can reach that far.
Now, at lvl4 this becomes a moot point when I get a mount with an effective Overrun maneuver. *Evil Grin*

Bruno Only:
Oh, yes, I see your point, Esmeralda cant get close enough for you to use the lance's reach. Hmm, this is interesting, because I believe you're able to attack someone directly in front of you with a non-reach weapon while mounted. I don't believe it ever really clearly tells you where a mounted character is on his mount for purposes of reach/etc. thoughts?

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Arbiter:
So, I just double checked and E. doesn't have reach in spite of being large. Go figure. Therefore, I can attack before she can. This nullifies her attack and means we end our move 5' back as we have to stop as soon as I can attack.
This all changes when I get Ride-By Attack, but for now I just get to skewer the bug with my pointy stick.

Elf

Uhura is dead :(

Kirk finishes his spell.

According to your saves: Esmeralda falls into a deep slumber while Bruno can bring the willpower to stay up. Which square is Bruno in?

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Per discussions with the Arbiter, Esmeralda ends her move 5' sooner than stated (g-h/10-11) and does not get her attack. Bruno's attack is unchanged. I don't know if that still kills Uhura.
Regardless, spell takes effect.

Ride check:
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Check is sufficient to stay in the saddle, Bruno is still mounted as Esmeralda lays down for a quick nap.

Bruno Only:
Ehh, I'm not sure the 'stay in the saddle' thing works that way. Isn't it just if you are knocked out? I would assume E sorta topple over, so staying in the saddle wouldn't really be a helpful thing, no?

Elf

Uhura stays dead :(

Is effecting one square of Esmeralda enough to effect both with color spray?

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Arbiter:
I pictured her settling down. Oh well. My check was high enough to land softly and avoid fall damage. I guess we should determine which square I tumble into.
1d12 ⇒ 4 1 being directly up, moving clockwise.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

The Arbiter has called shenanigans on me staying in the saddle. My check was high enough to avoid fall damage.
As Esmeralda topples from a sudden case of magical narcolepsy, Bruno falls out of the saddle as gracefully as falling out of a saddle can be done. now in G12

Elf

Can Bruno step through sleeping Esmeralda? Or is it difficult terrain? Can he end his movement in a square where she lies and attack me?

Elf

nvm, just thought about the options and it wouldn't make much of a difference.

:: Round 2 ::

Kirk moves to H09. He mumbles some arcane formulas again while gesturing, concluding with vivid colors spraying from his fingers. Bruno feels an occult force probing his mind.

Arbiter:

Cast Color spray

DC 16 Will save please.

Step to G08 if Bruno makes his save.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Save:
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Save: 19

Round 2
Bruno gives Esmeralda a solid kick to the rump. The camel wakes with a groan and stumbles to its feet. Bruno re-mounts swiftly. Esmeralda locks her beady black eyes on the caster. She steps over and bites the Elven pest.

Step to g-h/9-10 Kirk now threatened at G8 and 5' back for casting. Esmeralda attacks

dice:

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
1d4 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Attack:22
Damage:8

Elf

Kirk has a big flesh wound from Esmeralda's bite.

Has Bruno a weapon in hand?

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Yes, he still has his lance which is how he's threatening the square behind Kirk

Elf

:: Round 3 ::

Kirk takes a 5 ft step back to G07, repeating his last standard action casting defensively this time.

Arbiter:

Cast Color Spray defensively

1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23

Kirk can maintain his spell not provoking an AoO. DC 16 Will save for you two please. Move depending on the outcome.

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

save dice:

Bruno: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
E: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Bruno:10
Esmeralda:8

Elf

Phew... that was pretty much my last try...

Rounds of unconsciousness:

2d4 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5

Kirk draws his Xbow. Positions himself one round, then starts CDGing Bruno.

1st:

2d8 ⇒ (1, 8) = 9

2nd:

2d8 ⇒ (7, 5) = 12

3rd:

2d8 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Bruno saves:

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

1st:22
2nd:15
3rd:27

Elf

So Bruno dies after the 2nd CDG, do I have to kill Esmeralda too?

Bruno Bullrush: Smelly Dwarf astride a smelly camel. Win:2 Loss:6 Rep: 3

Hehe.. And the winner is, Esmeralda the camel!
I don't think that's necessary. Good match. :)

Elf

Good game! This was a close one. I need to rethink the use of sleep...

Kirk wins, but due to losing the Macho fight he does not gain enough VP to gain 3rd level. Rolg remains the only 3rd level character.
