Is this game worth it? I'm considering buying a 3DS ''mostly'' because of this game.

I didn't, but I watched a friend play FE on GameCube once, so I have a vague idea of what it could be. :P
How does it compare to other tactical turn-based RPGs? Does the story keep you interested in the game long enough to finish it? How important is the ''tactical'' part of the game vs XP grinding? Are there better tactical RPGs on the 3DS?
As much as I hate to sound like a cipher, it's fire emblem. I strongly suggest playing the original gba version first. If that doesn't make you pull your hair out, then you're golden.
