Monkey familiar + anthropormorphic spell?

Rules Questions

1) can you cast this on a familiar at all? If no ignore the rest.

2) if you cast it on your monkey familiar he gains speech and loses climb speed (though can still use the skill just like the master)?

Is that about it?

1) No, familiars are treated as magical beasts for effects that depend on type, and anthropomorphic spell only works on animals.

That's unfortunate. Alright. Thank you.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? If you want a talking money familiar, how about tongues?

Grand Lodge

The Master of the familiar can.

I want speech in order to use wands in a non-PFS game. Tongues should do the trick. Thanks.

How so?

Grand Lodge

The "Share Spells" ability.

It is in the familiar basics, and is a 1st level ability.

I believe he means because of this

Share Spells

The witch may cast a spell with a target of “You” on her familiar (as a touch spell) instead of on herself. A witch may cast spells on her familiar even if the spells do not normally affect creatures of the familiar's type (magical beast).

Aha! fantastic. Thank you.

I thought that only applied to Personal spells.

It's two distinct sentences. Note the second doesn't say "these spells" or anything like it. I never noticed before.

I think I would personally still just use the Tongues thing though. :P

Tongues is better except for the duration. The monkey could act as a translator! Lol

Grand Lodge

Alter Self would work better.

Familiar? What Familiar? This is my Cabin boy, Jitters.... Ignore his Monkey like chatter please.

Grand Lodge

Well, once Alter Self is in effect, the familiar can speak normally.

Duration is way to short for my needs. However definitely a good (aka: cheaper) candidate for a custom magic item.

Grand Lodge

What are your needs?

Hat of Disguise, Greater

Aura faint illusion; CL 3rd
Slot head; Price 12,000 gp; Weight — lbs.

DESCRIPTION

Like a hat of disguise, this garment allows its wearer to alter her appearance. It functions as an alter self spell (as opposed to disguise self). The hat becomes a part of the disguise and can be a hat, a helmet, a headscarf, and so forth.

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

Craft Wondrous Item, alter self; Cost 6,000 gp.

Poof!

Now you got a 'Human' Familiar all day!

Basically long term speech. The rest falls into place after that.

  1. Eat your Familiar.
  2. Replace your Familiar with one that can talk: a Raven, Parrot or Thrush.
  3. Profit!

I'm already on the second one. Lol. The first was dissolved by a slime while scouting.
