Falchion or Falcata?

Advice

Grand Lodge

Has anyone run the numbers? Is it worth a feat? Is it a wash? Is it just the difference between occasional explosive damage versus even less occasional cataclysmic damage? Does it just come down to personal preference. He would be two-handing the weapon the vast majority of the time. I guess one other advantage would be to use the falcata one handed and haul out the heavy steel +x shield to increase chances of survival. Also, character would be for PFS if that matters.

The character would be probably 2/3 fighter levels and 1/3 barbarian levels.

Please advise.

Maybe take a look at the nodachi. The falcata I'm not sure is worth it from a numbers perspective when including the feat tax. I'm sure number crunchers will be here soon to lay it out.

I prefer the falchion. 2d4 ensures at least a min of 2, and nothing is more embarassing than critting on a d10 and rolling a 1 for damage :(

But in all fairness, my math has been off lately.

In my opinion, I'd go for the falcata (unless you are focusing on critical feats...)

PS Byrdology, a Falcata is a 1d8 19-20/x3 weapon (One hand)

And also if feats are a must, you may not have the falcata initially, but paying 1500GP for a Cracked Opalescent white pyramid Ioun stone keyed to Falcata grants weapon familiarity with it (it is treated as a martial weapon), so if you are a fighter or barbarian (which is proficient with all martial weapons), you are proficient with it :)

EDIT: Whether the Ioun stone works with Weapon Focus is another story... Also your gm may try and take it away... Just put it in a wayfinder.

I was contemplating crit feats at higher levels, so having them go off more often with the falchion would be nice.

Ah, yes, nodaaaaachi . . .
