A continual flame spell costs 110gp to buy or 80 to make, I think.
How much does it cost to enchant an item with a light spell? I think, based on the rules, the cost would be 1000 to buy or 500 to make.
This seems so overpriced to me (considering light is a lvl-0 spell) I think I have to be missing a step here, can someone walk me through enchanting an item with the light spell?

Do you mean:
- An item that emits light as if the light cantrip has been cast on it?
- An item that allows the casting of the light cantrip, once?
- An item that allows the casting of the light cantrip, once per day?
- An item that has had the light cantrip cast upon it, and made Permanent?
- Just something that emits magical light, regardless of what spell(s) were used in its creation?

Light is a 0-level spell, but it counts as 1/2 a level for pricing purposes.
Continuous light is 0.5x1x2000 = 1000gp. As light lasts 10 minuts/level, the price is multiplied by 1.5. So 1,500gp to buy, 750gp to make.
Command activated light is 0.5x1x1800gp. So 900gp to buy, 450gp to make. It requires a standard action to activate, and lasts 10 minutes at a time.
An Everburning Torch may be cheaper, but it does have a weakness. As its a spell effect (continual flame), not a magic item, it is permanently lost when dispelled. A magic item of light can be reactivated 1d4 rounds after it is dispelled.

It does cost 110gp to buy, but only 50gp to make. With the Everburning Torch, you are paying a 3rd level caster to cast a spell on a stick. The material component for the spell is 50gp, and the cost to hire the spellcaster is 60gp (spell level x caster level x 10gp). Total: 110gp.

Note that 30% of all magic weapons shed light as a torch. For free. So I don't think light on an item should be expensive, especially 1k.
Well, found or purchased items anyway.
At the time of creation, the creator must decide if the weapon glows or not as a side-effect of the magic imbued within it. This decision does not affect the price or the creation time, but once the item is finished, the decision is binding.
