GM: I saw at least two crits from the bad guys in your latest attacks. Are we playing crits?
Absalon: Level 1 wizards tend to have this problem. Your class is proficient with a crossbow, you might want to find one. Don't worry, when you go up a few levels you will unleash hell upon our foes. If we play for a long time and you get into the mid-teen levels, you will be able to crush entire armies on your own. You just have to survive that long!

Yes, we are playing crits. I forgot to do the double damages. But, that's a forgivable error in Boyhi's favor - he's still alive (barely).

Hey, all.
As much as I really am enjoying this game, I'm unfortunately going to have to drop out. I'm finding that I'm not able to give it the time and attention that it deserves, right now, and so I'd rather open up a spot for someone who will be posting daily and otherwise keeping up his or her end of the bargain as a player.
I've had a lot of fun with the game. Thanks, all!

GM, on attacks of opportunity, that is only for leaving threatened squares. Not entering. It seems like you gave Goblin #8 and Inoklar AOOs for entering squares. Inoklar attacked three times that round, which is perfectly reasonable on exiting threatened squares.

Certain actions within a threatened square can also provoke an attack of opportunity. Leaving a threatened square is not the only means. Both Henric and Girdark had their movement interrupted within threatened squares due to entanglement traps, leaving them struggling and vulnerable.

Yay bards!
I'm heading out of town for a week and won't have access to the game. Play me as best you can. Remember, Merklii is insufferable with this Ore stuff..
I'll try to give him a quick level up here.

Sorry I've been away so long, everybody. My mother-in-law was visiting last week and I should have known how much time that would eat up. I figured I could chime in every few days, but things were moving so fast I never got caught up.
I've finally leveled up my character and gotten all my equipment sorted.
Speaking of equipment, do we have any volunteers to track the equipment we've found in our journeys? I can do it, but I'd like some crowd participation. I can see if there is an easy way to share an Excel (or equivalent) file so everyone can edit it to claim loot. It's hard to work off one list and scan through everyone's posts to figure who got what. I'll need to work on the logistics of it, but I'll use John's list as a starting point.
As for the game, I was surprised how fast things are moving. I figured we'd have a little time to meet our new Bard, officially meet Merklii (since he stumbled upon our group in the sewers), but everything charged ahead before I could even react.
I don't think it's a bad thing to wait a day or two between posts. I think we got so used to battling that half the group kept posting every day, the other half went on vacation. It seems the game ticks forward every day regardless of who participates. I've tried to keep up (before last week), but now I see that catching up after a couple of days is daunting, and it's easy to miss details.
Is Girdark still in Alaska? Should we get all caught up, then move through the temple?

I believe Girdark is on his way back from Alaska. I saw some pictures he posted from his trip, and he caught some bodaciously large fish (salmon?).
We are not really doing much in the game right now, and have spent the past week or so journeying to the island which contains the mysterious Temple. Most of what has been posted is background on the terrible event which has occurred to the archaeological dig party, centered around the temple complex. Looking for knowledge rolls, etc. for any more information that can be gleaned before venturing further.
It's up to you folks what you do and where you go after all... :)
And...do you like the Temple map? I figured out how to insert a nifty piece of art into a spreadsheet and line up the 5-foot squares. Looks pretty cool, I think, and I am going to see if there are more opportunities to do this. Artistic maps look better to the eye than colored Excel squares.

The temple map is quite amazing. It really helps give perspective to the room we've had described to us.
Since you're experimenting with all this nifty computer whiziness, can you share the loot list you've given us? All I can do is download it, not edits allowed for me.
When it comes to the posting, maybe we can work on using facebook to ping the group. Such as, if someone asks the party an important question (i.e. should we kill this guy, or just tie him up), or things are coming to a head, we can make a post to the FB group and then FB will notify everyone through its regular channels.
Obviously this won't work if folks in the party aren't around, or don't go on facebook much. I know that if my phone buzzed and let me know something happened, I'd be more likely to take time out of my day to check the posts.

Google Docs. It's how I did Team OGWITS back in the day.. But everyone has to have a google account to edit it. I can easily upload the existing doc to my Google Docs and share it, but folks need a google account for me to share it with.
Alternatively there is Office Onlne, but I don't know if it is still free and I don't know the sharing mechanisms.
And now a philosophical point.. Are you guys reading all the character-specific spoilers? I am not, so if there is info in there the party needs to know, then make sure you are sharing it.
This prevents me from having to "meta-game" it and pretend Merklii doesn't know something that I know.
Just wondering what everyone else's take is.
| Henric Tobbar |
I avoid the spoilers and just hope people are informing me. If I don't see something, and no one tells me, what can I do? The anti-meta-gaming is the #1 best feature of play-by-post, in my opinion.
I was thinking google docs too because I've used their sharing before. Does everyone have a google account? Keeping track of party loot is a massive undertaking, so any simplifications will help.

I believe that you don't have to have a Google account to see a document in a folder on their system - that you can provide a link and the person can access it via a browser (I might be wrong). Whether or not it can be edited as well, that I don't know.
I have used DropBox a lot, and that is a collaborative document sharing service - and its free. You just have to be careful, because anything done on one system is done on all systems in a shared manner. So, if one person edits, everyone sees the edits. If one person deletes a file, it deletes it on all systems.

So, I was reading up on those Harpy types and enthralled folks: " If the path leads them into a dangerous area such as through fire or off a cliff, that creature receives a second saving throw to end the effect before moving into peril"
So, in theory, if an ally were to make the square in front of me explode in flame--say with some sort of alchemical means--I might get another saving throw?
This is simply a theoretical discussion, of course.
Even more theoretical now that I checked the map and saw I'm making out with the Harpy now..
