That is a very good question. Because we will have some novices in the group, we are starting out using only the Core Rulebook as the sole necessary reference (hence, only the core classes and races will be used). Use the Standard method to generate ability scores (roll 4d6 and subtract the lowest die) found on page 15. Should create a character with a little more staying power in tough situations. I will share this on FB as well.

Some character creation advice:
1. Use the Standard method to generate Ability scores (roll 4d6, subtract the lowest die). See page 15 of the Core Rulebook.
2. All PCs begin with full hit points including Constitution modifier.
3. Starting equipment: If you are using a pre-generated character, this has been done for you. If creating your own character, spend the gp amount found under the "Average" column for starting character wealth, Table 6-1, in the Core Rulebook, page 140.
If you don't have the Core Rulebook, all of this information is also available here.

Phew, managed to get my Paladin rolled up in a few short hours after being lazy for a few short weeks. I can't wait to see how this works out. I like the integrated dice rolling.
To the GM: Is there anything I should know before coming up with a backstory?
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

To All: To avoid having to put quotes around your spoken phrases, the convention is:
Actions - Regular type
Words - Italics
By putting speech in italics, there will be no questions about when you are speaking out loud. It is assumed all speech is in Common, unless you designate otherwise, in which case it should be under a spoiler button so that only characters who understand that language can read it. See Ebrylis' exchange between the elf and the dwarf for an example of this.
Cheers!

As we progress with the story, I will notify you on this page when there is content for viewing via the group's file or picture area on Facebook.
The content will be things like:
- reference information
- graphic and photos
- maps and encounter information
- information supplements
Pathfinder information that is readily available online will by hyperlinked into the Gameplay page when relevant to the story.

If the dice roles are built in where do we put weapons and equipment? How do we specifiy which weapon we are using?
You would specify it as an action. For example, a player decides to attack a foe using a longsword, and has a +2 attack and damage bonus because of his or her strength ability modifier. The player would post something like:
I swing my longsword and try to strike the villain.
Dice roll 1d20+2
If the attack meets or exceeds the villain's armor class, then you would be directed to make a damage roll with the longsword's stats.
Dice roll 1d8+2

You would do an action post like the above anytime the dice are involved, including for skills:
I try to walk across the slippery rocks in the stream.
Accrobatics: dice roll 1d20 + acrobatics skill modifier
I try to open the lock.
Disable Device: dice roll 1d20 + disable device modifier
I try to persuade the guard to let me in.
Diplomacy (or Bluff or Intimidate): dice roll 1d20 + appropriate skill modifier
I try to see if I can read the writing on the ancient scroll.
Linguistics: dice roll 1d20 + linguistics modifier

I like the PbP so far. It reduces metagaming to almost zero. I'm not fully sold on the dice rolls yet. So far I've rolled a 2, another 2, and a 4.
1d4 ⇒ 1
3d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6) = 14
1d10 ⇒ 9
1d20 ⇒ 2
It's hard to carry dice superstitions to an electronic form, but man, this dice system isn't my friend just yet. Looks like I'll deal good damage, if only my d20 rolls would be enough to hit something besides my own foot.

Just a reminder that there is a list of various Traits available on the group's facebook files area. You may choose one trait for your character.
The traits are designed to give your characters a little distinctive, advantageous tweak. They are not mandatory, but I think you will probably find one that will be beneficial. They are arranged by categories. A Trait is sort of like receiving a half feat to start out with.

I put some hyperlinks into the post about the luncheon, with background info about the Pathfinder Society and Heidmarch Manor, to describe what Lady Heidmarch would have informed you about. A picture of the Lady has also been added to the Photos page of the Facebook Group.

How will the XP collection work? I know not much has happened so far, but will we be receiving XP after each encounter, or will it randomly arrive every so often?
The story has several parts, so I thought XP would be awarded for successfully reaching those benchmarks. Dealing with this goblin is definitely a benchmark.

Just as a note, I’m going to be at a convention (thus, AFK) from tomorrow around noon to Sunday night. If there’s fighting to be done, Ilindir will attempt to use stealth to position himself to the greatest benefit of the party and then go to town with his curveblade, focusing on goblinoids (as his favored enemy), if at all possible.

I'm not saying the dice algorithm is terrible, I'm sure it's been beautifully programmed to be random. I'm just saying that if I had a physical d20 that rolled like this, I would have smashed it with a sledgehammer, burned it on a sacrificial pyre, and sank the remains to the bottom of the Mariana trench.
Maybe I'm just being dramatic...
