Pretty simple. If i make a long-sword out of adamantine. is it the same as steel?

Yes. Nothing says otherwise.

Since the rules don;t say to change the weight of an adamantine weapon (like they do for say Mithral)it can be assumed that adamantine is roughly the same weight as steel.

If this is relation to your adamantine hafted halberd from the other thread I would probably just multiply the weapons weight by 1.5, taking it to 18 pounds (which is actually much lighter than it would be in real life, the Iron bar I mentioned in the other thread weighed closer to 25 pounds).

Solid bar? About 25 pounds. Roughly 0.28 pounds per cubic inch. The bar is rounded, not square, so somewhat less (about 21 pounds).

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Volume=3.14x(1x2.54)^2 x 8x12x2.54
So the volume of the iron bar would be 4939.7 cubic centimeters.

Iron has a density of 7.86 grams per cubic centimeter.

So 4939.7x7.86=38826 grams or 38.826 kilograms

1kg=2.2046lb so 38.826x2.2046=85.6 lb

That is one iron bar at 85.6 lb

See there are uses for math out side of work and school!

I believe you have your formula wrong. You squared the diameter, not the radius. Volume of a cylinder is 3.14 x r^2 x h

In this case, using inches, its 3.14x0.5^2x96 = 75.36 cubic inches
For centimeters, its 3.14 x 1.27^2 x 243.84 = 1234.9 cubic centimeters.

As 7.86 grams per cubic centimeter, thats 9706 grams, or 9.7 kilograms.
Or at 0.28 pounds per cubic inch x 75.36 cubic inches = 21.1 pounds.

(9.7kg is approximately 21.3 pounds)

If we're talking about weapon weights, why not just make it up the same way the actual writers did?

The weights in the book are totally all over the place and most of them are ridiculously heavier than they should be.
