Recurring NPCs

Sovereign Court 4/5

Lately I've been hoarding new scenarios like a hog. Since I'm only familiar with the settings of 0th and 1st season, there are some things that puzzle me in the 4th season scenarios.

In two recent scenarios a name has popped up. This man... Tancred Desimire, seems like a recurring NPC who was introduced somewhere else, a lot earlier, but where and when? He seems to take the stage soon...

The Disappeared spoilers?:
...maybe as the new faction leader of Cheliax?
...and yet I still don't know his full agenda. It makes running games a tad hard, as I've noticed. A bit aside the point, running #4-10 Feast of Sigils without any knowledge of the events in Cultist's Kiss proved troublesome. Frustrating and embarrassing. Similar emotions can rise when running an NPC the players, unlike you, know about. Often the scenario mentions the character has been around previously, which is good, but not always.

So I began thinking about having some compiled list of recurring NPCs. Namely the first that come to mind are...

- Nigel Aldain, the curator of Blakros Museum
- Miss Feathers, an... entrepreneur in Kaer Maga
- Tancred Desimire, oh I wish I knew what he is all about
- Osprey, shady druid ally of the Society
- Grandmaster Torch before becoming a faction leader

Heck, listing the venture-captains by appearance would be intriguing to see also! I'm unsure whether such a list has been made already. If it has, it should be sticky'd. Helps new and old GMs alike!

I am not sure, Tancred sounds familiar, but I can't place where I have seen or interacted with him offhand, myself. Played a bunch of scenarios, GMed a few more, and have problems remembering names.

The Pathfinder Wiki may contain the information you are looking for, or be a good place to start a page for that information.

Tancred:
His brother, brother in law, or family member (whatever he is) Aglorn Desimire is one of the Aspis leaders in charge of exploration of the Hao Jin Tapestry. Hao Jin Tapestry is the second part of the meta plot for season three.

I have not yet played the Disappeared, but Tancred Desmire appears in

Previous Scenario:
The Blakros Matrimony.

Tancred Desimire is the brother of Aglorn Desmire, who was the BBEG for 3-25: Storming the Diamond Gate.

Also, I thought Osprey was a Venture Captain, though I could be mistaken.

Don't forget Yargos Gill, "The Man Who Should Stop Reading".

He is, although one of the most enigmatic, because he's rarely giving out assignments that make sense for his lodge's interests.

He's the VC for Decline of Glory. While he's mistaken about a lot of things, the mission itself is a positive one.

The Eyes of the Ten Chronicles suggest that Osprey is not a Venture Captain, but rather an agent-at-large.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

He was listed as a Venture-Captain in Seeker of Secrets. He has appeared as a VC, giving missions in some season 0 scenarios. However, he is just listed as a "Pathfinder Agent" in season 2 scenarios. Perhaps he was demoted before/during the events in Eyes of the Ten. Stealing birdseed from the supply closet, I guess.

Maren Fuln, a transmuter from the Arcanimirium has shown up in at least 2 scenarios. He's the central figure in the (RETIRED) scenario, Eye of the Crocodile King, and he's a minor foil in 3_07 Echoes of the Overwatched.

This came up at my table a few days ago - one of my players asked "what the heck ever happened to Osprey after the Season 2 Special?"

Has he shown up at all since Seekers of Secrets or Season 2 scenarios? I remember that in Year of the Shadow Lodge,

Spoiler:
Osprey is gravely injured, but there's no mention of his death

...so I'm left wondering now too.

As far as I can tell, the last we've heard of him is that he was taking care of a plotline that was started in Eyes of the Ten, which is why we haven't heard of him since the middle of Season 2. And honestly, given Eyes of the Ten, it makes sense that we don't see Osprey that much. It would be nice to see him a little more often though.

Only if he is a legal target. If he showed up a bit more often, people would realize that Sheila and Drandle are harmless....

Osprey was the pet character of author Tim Hitchcock. Tim hasn't written for PFS in a while so we haven't seen Osprey pop up. It doesn't mean he's dead.

When I submitted a PFS Quest in 2012 I used Osprey as the mission giver. I'm quite fond of him.

Osprey is mentioned in The Moonscar.

The Guide to organized play mentions Osprey as an example of a seeker in the chapter in post 11th level play.

Grand Lodge 4/5

Osprey was never a Venture-Captain that I recall. I think he was a Hand of the Decemvirate or something like that.
