I found a GIGANTIC horseshoe crab. I was about 8 or 9. I gawked at it with the kids from the summer program. It just kinda sat there. I looked away, and then it was gone. I had no idea how it moved or how it moved so freaking fast....

I've never seen the ocean. I have seen seagulls and pelicans up and down the larger rivers here in Arkansas, and even seagulls up in the Rocky Mountains. But I have seen an 8 foot alligator gar washed up on the banks of the White River near Batesville, AR before. Does that count?

Not in "real life". I've never traveled much, having lived all my life in Arkansas, except for one unfortunate year in St. Louis, Missouri. The farthest I've ever traveled from here has been Denver, Colorado and Indianapolis, Indiana for GenCon 9 years ago.
While it's not unrealistic to think I will see the ocean someday, it's not on my bucket list. Or any list. I loathe flying and will never willingly do so again, and my increasingly acute anxiety disorder makes me want to stay home more and more. So, I doubt I ever get to see it, and I'm really okay with that.

And to 8th Dwarf, we don't get as much snow here in my state as often as we did when I was a kid, but it did snow a foot beginning on Christmas Day and throughout the next. It's the first time it actually snowed on Christmas Day in Arkansas in 86 years, though there have been many other white Christmases where the snow fell a few days earlier. I miss snow when we don't get any (such as last year).

Been to the ocean plenty of times. Saw sand (not proper sand, mind you, just a whole lot of ground up shells pretending to be sand) and a lot of water (It was full of salt! WTF). Not to mention pelicans, gulls, jellyfish, horseshoe crabs, dolphins, and all kins of tasty tasty fish. But I live in Michigan, home of the Great Lakes (Practically freshwater seas in their own right), and I've seen gulls, and fish here as well. Can't say I've really seen anything interesting washed up on the shore, as I don't actually go to the lakes very often. Really not a big fan of driving half an hour to 45 minutes to spend some time in the water getting pestered by other people at the beach and gulls, all while getting a nasty sunburn. I can get the sunburn at my friend's pool without the other hassle. Also, I'm happier to be far away from that glowing orb of death that is the sun.
....This turned into far more of a rant than I intended... probably because it's 3:30 AM....

Ummm... proper sand IS ground up shells... at least good sand is. And about the salt, I am sorry you got there when the government was dumping salt into the water as a test run for... ooops. Shouldn't have said that.
