Can the Gate Spell bring in monsters with class levels

Just wondering if you could gate in a monster with 7 HD and some class levels if you have spare HD in the spell.

Since the spell only ever references hit dice, I'd say yes. So, a minimum level caster (17th) casting a gate spell could call through a 34 HD creature uncontrolled, or a 17 HD creature controlled. Whether those HD come from racial HD or class levels shouldn't matter. Of course, the hard part is knowing about a particular creature that meets your desires to be able to call that specific one through the gate.

The "spare hit dice" are for controlling the being you set the gate near, not for setting up the gate. The spell gives you no ability to control "deities and unique beings" -- and an outsider with class levels would most likely be considered a "unique being".

I would probably rule that you would need a true name of a particular outsider in order to do that, or at least know the outsider personally.
