Charging through a swarm?

Rules Questions

Hi guys,

Quote:
A swarm can move through squares occupied by enemies and vice versa without impediment
Quote:
Creatures with the swarm subtype don't make standard melee attacks. Instead, they deal automatic damage to any creature whose space they occupy at the end of their move
Quote:
Swarms do not threaten creatures, and do not make attacks of opportunity with their swarm attack

One of my players asked me if all the above means he can charge through a swarm without any danger of taking damage and it seems like this is the case. Am I missing something?

Dark Archive

He can move through a swarm and not take damage. But technically he cannot perform the Charge action through a swarm, much like you can't charge through a friendly square.

Liberty's Edge

Not technically. You can't charge through a square that has a creature in it.

charging restrictions: wrote:
You must have a clear path toward the opponent, and nothing can hinder your movement (such as difficult terrain or obstacles). You must move to the closest space from which you can attack the opponent. If this space is occupied or otherwise blocked, you can't charge. If any line from your starting space to the ending space passes through a square that blocks movement, slows movement, or contains a creature (even an ally), you can't charge. Helpless creatures don't stop a charge.

Thank you, I guess this makes sense.

And how does the swarm attack? Does it have to spend an attack action or can it just move around with double move attacking for free at the end of its round?

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, they just get to move and then deal damage to whoever ends up in their space at the end of their action.

Sovereign Court

I think that the swarm could even use a Run action to chase after people and still do damage to them, since all it needs to do is end movement in the creature's square.
