Hey y'all,

I realize that this may be the wrong forum for this area. BUT....I'm looking into any and all tabletop game market analysis for the purpose of opening up my own game store. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

There is no shortcut to this thing. If you're going to open a game store it will simply fail unless gamers come to it to spend their money. What you have to do is the footwork and the research on your local gaming community. Which means going to your local conventions making contacts with your local gaming groups (like NAGA if it's in your area) And making contact with the gamers themselves. Start by opening booths at conventions and see if you develop a following.

Because if you can't develop a following at your local conventions, you should probably think of a different business venture. What you may want to consider doing is providing a venue for collectible card gaming on which you can sell RPGs as a sideline.

If you haven't, I'd suggest reading Quest for Fun by Gary Ray of Black Diamond Games.

Thanks Liz. I'm assuming you read this. What did you get out of this blog?

Quest for fun is a very informative blog from one of the countries bigger game stores. He tells about how he picks inventory, what the top sellers in various categories are, how he advertizes, ect.... about 1 out of every 3 posts there are gold for a game store just starting out
