Mythic Tier Advancement Pace

GM Feedback

I think the generally accepted 2 levels/tier makes this a little powerful and doesn't really solve the problem of playing past 20th level, which is what some people want this rule set to do(since using this method gives you tier 10 at 20th level and thus you don't advance anymore beyond 20th).

I know if I were to use this at the table I probably wouldn't let people get anything above tier one until about...6-8th level. The +20 init that comes with the second tier is a big boost. Not sure how I would further advance things but if I were to use this with AP's(and since most AP's have been ending around 12-15th level) I don't see myself letting my players have more than 3 or 4 tiers of mythic by the end of an AP.

Do others feel the 2 levels/tier that people seem to be using to playtest this is a fair pace or do you also find that the pace needs to be slowed a little? If it needs to be slowed how would you progress your players through mythic tiers?

It all depends on how your playstyle is. I could see myself giving the PC's tiers every other level (provided they do the leg work of attaining those tiers) but the monsters will HAVE to scale.

I also think that I wouldn't let them move on to the next tier until all members in the party are ready, this would encourage teamwork and remove the headache of 1 or 2 mythic characters skewing the battles or the rest of the party unable to help the mythic characters.

I could easily see myself only giving tiers every 4th level.

I agree, I would dislike trying to DM a party with a tier 1 and a tier 3 character in the same party. I also could see the tiers to level ratio being greater than one tier per two levels in my game.

But I also want to say I have not given up on the idea of a skewed NPC where they have a tier at first level either. The Son of a God type NPC.

Suggestion: Maybe they offer Mythic style suggestions for this as well. Mythic common might also include a 1 tier to 2 levels ratio but uncommon might be a 1 tier to 4 levels for example.

The accepted pace of gaining Mythic tiers is more recommended for a campaign that is expecting an ending to the campaign at a specific point in the character's career like at 16th level or 20th level or whatever.

The DM could just save Mythic tiers til after the players have reached 20th level instead if he wants to have a campaign that continues on pass level 20.

Tier progression is accomplishment-based and not experience-based. So unless you're gonna house rule or the rules change, there is a huge likelihood that there will be different tiers represented at a lot of tables.

GMs will be able to control the pace of advancement by designing encounters that don't offer easy trial completion, especially when it come to major trials. However, some players will still find one type of encounter easier than other to score trials in.

I believe you can turn mythic tiers into epic levels, though I'd still prefer a solid set of rules for epic progression. After my group stops the flood, we might do an epic game as 25/10 players to try maxing out the system.

We are reading the same playtest document, right? Because in the version I downloaded, only in the most common rarity of mythic power are mythic tiers gained at a rate of approximately 2 levels/tier. Try playing Uncommon instead.

Of course, if you don't think 20 levels plus 10 mythic tiers is more than 20 levels, I'm not entirely sure what to tell you.
