I just got a Nintendo Wii U and I am very impressed by the thing. I had thought that the touch screen controller would be a gimmick, but it is actually incredibly useful. The thing functions as a controller, keyboard, TV remote (seriously), and 5th player controller for some multiplayer games.
I have to mention that my mind was blown when I realized that I could take my touch screen controller to bed and play some New Super Mario Brothers U on it before going to sleep as if it was a Gameboy. The console has to be pretty close by to stream the game to the controller, but being able to play some games without even turning the tv on is a really cool feature.
So, who else has gotten one of these, and who is thinking of getting one? I think Nintendo is going to do really well this generation as long as they keep the games coming. :D

That's the problem with Nintendo, poor game selection for the non-casual older gamer. I ditched my Wii for that very reason (mostly) as well as the outdated GC graphics, and my disappointment that the Metroid Prime Trilogy couldn't be played with a Wii classic controller.
The trade in, along with a few games bought me a 360 instead. My PS3 remains my favorite console though.

I never understood the 'Nintendo is for casual gamers' thing. Then again, it isn't like I own only Nintendo systems, I also have a Xbox 360 and a high end PC for gaming. I just play whichever system currently has a game out that I want to play.
I think the Wii U will be fine graphics wise since it is at least HD now. Either way, I can overlook graphics as long as I get to play Zelda and Smash Brothers. :D

Depends what you're into, I've got two Zeldas, two Mario Galaxies, Pandora's Tower, Okami, Xenoblade, Last Story... seems alright.

Don't have one, but will maybe get one in the future. My biggest criticism is the storage space. 8 gigs (32 for Deluxe) is nowhere near enough in this day and age of downloadable games and DLC. Especially when you consider that a good bit of that is eaten up by the OS...you actually only get 3 gigs (25 for Deluxe).
Nintendo sometimes seems like they purposefully sabotage themselves.

I'm a casual gamer. The big hit of the last several years for me has been Lego This and That, which I can get on PC. But I can't get Mario and Zelda on the PC and I'm interested in both those and the Nintendo back catalog I can get off their download store. (I only ever had a Gameboy.) Yes I could chase down an emulator and roms but playing console games on an emulator has never worked well for me. So after watching some let's play footage of the latest Mario game I decided I'd set aside money and buy the thing at some point.

Looks like you can only sign in on one wii u console
Great idea, so If I get one, make my Wii ID or whatever its called, and a year from now my Wii u breaks and I have to get a new one, I can't sign in on my old Wii ID and download all the DLC and other stuff I got under my first ID.
Who was the genius that thought that one up?

Why would it break?
I'm seriously asking - I can still use Nintendo consoles that are decades old; those things are built to last. Presuming that you don't do something that causes damage to it, my personal experience points to the thing lasting for a very long time.
If, by chance, something does happen to it, well, I'd call them and ask what can be done then.

Why would anything break. Sometimes s@~% happens.

They have stated that they will be upgrading the system later so that you can sign onto other consoles. They will have to in order to allow people to sign onto a 3DS.
I will admit that this will be annoying one of my friends for a while though because he pushed me to create an account for him before he got his own system, lol.

After the disaster that was the Wii (yeah, I said it!), I'm not too keen on the Wii U.
I'll definitely pick it up some day... just not anytime soon. Nothing on it interests me that much right now (or for the next while), and that's ignoring its start-up difficulties (loading issues, 5 GB day-one download!). Glad it's not totally motion-control gonzo, though, with a real controller (a step in the right direction) - though the 2nd screen doesn't do much for me right now, since I prefer 60" screen gaming and not teeny-weeny-widdle-table-screen gaming. Not really sure it's a system for me, I guess.

Considering the way many Wii games work control-wise, it wouldn't work out.
Yes, it's been late, but I have a Wii U. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of money, so I don't have all the games for it I want. I do however have Super Mario 3D World, Smash Bros. 4, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Splatoon. As well as Steamworld Dig, Freedom Planet, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, and a number of Virtual Console games.
My only real complaint is that the YouTube app has a nasty habit of crashing and taking the whole system with it. It's the only thing that does it.

Super Necromancy!
Wonderful 101 is a great game.
