Sorcerers and spells not from wizard / sorcerer spell list

Lately I've made an interesting discovery - it seems as if sorcerers can learn spells that are not on their spell list. This is the reason:

"A sorcerer casts arcane spells drawn primarily from the sorcerer/wizard spell list."

"primarily" means not only, but mainly

"These new spells can be common spells chosen from the sorcerer/wizard spell list, or they can be unusual spells that the sorcerer has gained some understanding of through study."

And here is the star of the evening: you learn a spell either from the list or some unusual spell from research. Basically, I'm not sure what it means - is it just "new" spell (like player-made) or a spell from some other class list (with DM agreement, I suppose).

It's both. If you spend the requisite time and money for the research, with DM approval, you may add any spell (from another class or homebrewed) to your spell list. Big caveat that most GMs I've found do not allow this or allow it only with very heavy restrictions.

DMs often likes smores. Try those.

fey sorcerers get to cast entangle, which is not on the wizard/sorcerer spell list. quite a few of the bonus spells sorcerers get from their blood line are not on that list. it's not that rare. it doesn't mean you get to choose whatever spell you want from any spell list when choosing spells, otherwise it would say that.

if your GM lets you research spells that are the same as other classes spells, or entirely different from any spell, more power to him/her. but that is GM fiat.

asthyril has the other half of it. Lots of bloodline spells come from other lists, like lots of domain spells come from other lists. Most of the sorcerer's spells will come from the wiz/sor list, with the exception of some bloodline spells and whatever your GM has ruled you may add through spell research.
